Summary: Welcome to post-9/11 America
Review: "Get Your War On," by David Rees, consists of a series of cartoons in which a cast of office drones discuss life in America during the post-9/11 war on terrorism. Among the topics covered are the military campaign in Afghanistan, the anthrax scare, and the phenomenon of suicide bombing. The tone is satirical, with a very harsh edge.

I found the book sometimes clever, but sometimes it is just unfunny ranting. Much of the humor comes from the pairing of banal white collar images with the often over-the-top, profanity laden dialogue.

Summary: A Sardonic Laugh Riot
Review: After reading this,I crack up when I watch all the SUV's in my neighborhood with their double sided window flags and huge "pride and power" bumper magnets. Buy this book only if you are ready to laugh that nervous laugh that you sometimes might have at a funeral.

Summary: Funny as hell!
Review: As a old school Teddy Roosevelt war monger, I could not agree less with the political philospohy of Get your War On. But it's still the funniest thing on the internet...Buy the book and kill some trees!

Review: buy this book, read it. Laugh because this book brings a humour side to a dark situation. And cry, because you will realize that everything in this comic strips is for real.

Summary: Will the circle be unbroken, by-and-by, Lord, by-and-by?
Review: David Rees sent me a message last October. Well, not me personally- he sent it to anyone who could find his clip-art comics website. His comics said, "So you're feeling a little funny about this War On Terror, this War On the Constitution? Well you're not the only one."

With biting wit and startling insight, Rees ignores the myth and legend of our government's "official proclamations", and cuts to the chase. Self-healing minefields? Enron as the next al-queda? Osama bin Laden, Gollum's long lost brother? Voltron? And of course, the mythical invisible Dick Cheney. Its all here, ready to split your side, and when you're done laughing, make you feel guilty for that American flag sticker you blindly stuck on the rear window of your SUV.

Summary: A One Trick Pony
Review: Everyone digging this book is just reacting to hype. It's not that funny, not that insightful, and Rees seems compelled to throw in explicatives in every comic to cover the fact that he's not that talented and merely a one trick pony. Oh, the character said ... - It must be hilarious!

This is just a weak attempt by someone who got lucky enough to capitalize on the Zeitgeist of the moment. Rees may be sincere, but after the war is over, I think his 15 min. are up. Don't believe me? Check the Filing Technique and Karate Technique stuff - mundane with a capitol "M".

Summary: Poor presentation of fantastic material
Review: First of all, Get Your War On is hilarious. I think anyone who would consider buying this book already knows that. You should be interested in how the book looks, how it reads, its physical presence, and so forth. As far as that goes, the book is sub-par.

Each comic is presented on its own separate page. Since it was sent to the publisher a while ago, this also means that there isnt very much material... only a few weeks worth. So about half of the current online content is missing from the book. Since there are so many pages and so little content, it doesnt develop the same flow as the multi-strip pages on the web site. You'd probably be better off printing out the strips yourself, and putting it together. Now, part of the cost of the book does benefit the Afghan landmine removal campaign, but if you feel bad aboout it, you could always donate money directly to them.

Hilarious comics, but not a good book.
