Summary: "Thus endeth the lesson..."
Review: One of the best-loved and critically acclaimed comic book series comes to an end. AND WHAT A RIDE IT WAS!!! LIke the Alamo, you will remember it forever. A grand finale to a grand series. There shan't be another like it!!

Summary: So long, and thanks for all the bangbang
Review: One of the most engrossing mature comics storylines since "Sandman" comes to an explosive and satisfying finish. With "Alamo," writer Ennis and artist Dillon resolve the major and minor storylines of this spectacular, delightfully blasphemous, dazzlingly original nine-volume series. I resisted reading Preacher in issue format, waiting instead for the inevitable graphic novel collections. I read "Alamo" in one gulp on a flight, and was glad I waited to take in the resolution in one shot. Ennis truly did write an epic novel here--instead of issue-by-issue storylines, every plot line, every character nuance fed off the other leading to this-the pinnacle, the payoff. Virtually all character storylines are resolved (one quibble: What happened to Amy?) and the themes and plot threads begun in issue one are all tied up into one satisfying package. Plenty of classic mayhem ensues, along with Ennis' characteristic humor. Another minor complaint: "Alamo" was printed on the same lower-grade paper as "Salvation." But this can't mar a fantastic reading experience. Read them all-but don't miss this!

Summary: A Great Finish to a Great Series
Review: Preacher is a comic that is aimed at those who don't mind gore, sex and religion all being tossed to create one hell of a ride. This comic is bound to piss everybody off in some way whether your a student of a preacher. However, that is part of the magic of this comic, it gives you a glimpse into something that our society deems unspeakable.
Now on to the this comic book. The final comic in the series and it was well worth the wait. Every plot line is finshed and done so well. There are a few twists and some points were you are just awed. By the end God, Cassidy, Starr, Custer, Tulip, and the Saint of Killers are awarded an ending that is fit to each but there are some surprises their.
I feel Garth Ennis did a great job with the comic series giving a good intricate plot, plenty of twist, believable characters, and overall a great story that never slows, never quits, and has an ending that fits.
I also feel that the artwork should be talked about too. The artist of the series (except for Book 4) makes the words and characters come alive. He is able to throw splashes of grey and black into this comic that fits the mood. It is excellant artwork.
Overall, Preacher rocks and is a comic book worthy of praise. Just remember, its fiction.

Summary: the end.......BANG!
Review: the cool lines, the action, the gore, the blasphemy, the eye patch and the (suggested for mature readers)tag on the back of this book, makes it simply, irresistable.
this is the conclusion, here you'll learn what will happen,to the runaway zeus like god,his cowboy angel of death, the antichrist lookalike crusader, the irish vampire and the eyepached preacher's quest for vengeance.
and not forgeting arseface.all in a hell of a twister cult story
if you are a church goer -or a mosque goer in my case-and marilyn manson doesn't offend you,but makes you laugh sometimes, then buy this book.
if he does offend you ,you better look away.
some reader complain about the ending ,well ,as arseface said

Summary: Brilliance
Review: The Preacher series are the most brilliant comics ever written - period. If fact, it's some of the best fiction ever written, irrespective of the format. All nine books are masterpieces. Thank you Steve and Garth for hours and hours of unbeatable entertainment. Now if Kevin Smith can only get his movie version of Preacher made, I'll be a happy, happy man.

Summary: The Perfect Conclusion To Possibly The Greatest Comic Ever
Review: This compilation completes the Vertigo series by tying up the loose ends of a very complicated story. Jessie Custer's search for God comes to an apocalyptic conclusion which features almost every major player in the comic including my personal favorite the Saint of Killers. For those of you who are new to the story Jessie Custer is a out of faith preacher who has become bonded with Genesis, the powerful offspring of a demon and an angel. Armed with the Word, an ability to get anyone to do anything by simply telling them to, he finds his purpose in tracking down God, who recently left his duties in Heaven. But before he can do that he must figure out his relationship with his former girlfriend Tulip and also his friendship with Cassidy an Irish vampire. Along the way their are many plot twists involving a huge cast of unforgettable characters. There is Arseface, a boy who unsuccessfully attempted suicide trying to be like his hero Kurt Cobain. Also appearing is the Saint of Killers, the man who's heart was so cold it froze Hell. Also appearing are Jessie's evil family, his inbred friends, the ultimate sexual deviant, the weird Meat Man whose secret is difficult to explain, and many more. The story becomes a complex tale of betrayal, loss of faith, revenge, and true love. I would recommend the series to anyone who likes a good read. I must warn however that the series deals with very mature themes. It has a lot of adult language, some nudity, several sexual storylines, graphic violence, and some religous storylines that may offend strongly religous individuals. That being said I would like to also recommend Garth Ennis' newest comic Just A Pilgrim, a new western story involving religion and the future.

Summary: I know I'm remembering this...
Review: This series rested on a premise: God exists, but He quit his post, and the Reverend Jesse Custer wanted to bring him to accounts. Somewhere along the line, we come to learn the drive of desperation, the fear of loneliness, the selfishness of the lonely, and that all children eventually outgrow the parent.

And we're talking about God here. At least as presented by Ennis & Dillon...

Or are we talking about Rev. Jesse Custer, who, like his mother, outgrew the confines of solitary and hateful Angelville? Or Cassidy, who screws up every meaningful friendship he ever had. Or Tulip when she thought the love of her life was gone. Even the Saint of Killers does what he does out of selfish rage and needful purpose.

This whole series is the best thing Vertigo ever published. If anyhthing, it solidified my faith more than any televangelist ever had. This is a fitting conclusion to a Texas epic.

Summary: A bit of a disappointing ending...
Review: Well, what can you say about Preacher? Probably the best series of the 90s. Still, I was dissappointed with the (very) end of this one, for a few reasons.

First, the Saint of Killers takes over Heaven. Erm, how? Sure, he's the angel of death. But, what about the Angel of War, or Victory, or Immortality? All just fodder for ths SOK's guns. A little underwhelming.

Second, Genesis. It got dealed with a bit too easily, in my mind. I mean, it never made 100% sense in the first place... an angel and a demon have a child, and it's something new. Now, how does this work? God made both... if you somehow got a dog and a cat to have a kitten/puppy would it take over the world? And then, in the end, God just sort of takes it out, because Jesse is distracted, or whatever.

Third, the confrontation with God. He just sort of whines, and then He dies. Woop-di-doo. I mean, Ennis is a big atheist guy--he said a fervent Christian was as likely to be Torquemada as a decent person (of course, Christianity had been around about 1,000 years before the Inquisition or Crusades, but I digress). Anyway, I sort of expect it from him. But still, after YEARS of reading the comic, buyng it every month... it was a let down.

Fourth, the thing was confusing in general. Preacher had a weird thing where it had an epilogue after the ending. Now, I thought the ending _was_ the ending: 'THey buried him in the ashes of his best friend'. It's actually basically the ending to Hitman, and seemed more intellectually honest. Instead, another comic comes out where the SOK wipes out Heaven in about five minutes, and kills God with one shot after chewing him out a bit. Oh, and everyone'e ressurected. That was the worst. They kill God, and the rest of the Grail, and they don't even suffer a single casualty.

Fifth, everything's fine. Heaven is emptied out, the group that controlled the world is wiped out, and, well, Jesse goes to get a day job. Umm... okay.

Anyway, you really should read the other issues, and you'll pretty much have to read the last. But still, it could have been much better.

Summary: My own little review of the Preacher series
Review: Yes, the Preacher series is a good series, one of the better comic book series (besides Hellraiser and Faust: Love of the Damned). Yes it is cynical toward religion, the "big bad" Christianity and how it is so "evil" because we all know that the world's troubles are due to Christianity? Right... excuse me while my eyes roll...

Still this is in itself a good story and worthy characters. It was a harrowing journey throughout all the issues. The stories are fantastic. Its strong and its tough and rugged. I enjoyed it despite how it shows how Christianity is what makes everything bad in the world (sorry I'm not an anti-Christian and ultra-Politically Correct nazi, but I can't help but find the Ennis preaching a bit goofy); yet because of the very well tuned characters, I just had to read it all.

Everything was fine storywise and character wise up to the end. This last book of the series just leaves me cold. Its not that God dies (which is, if you really think about it, absolutely unrealistic since its God that makes up and substains the universe...still you have to suspend belief to enjoy comics), its not that Jesse and Tulip go off in the sunset.

What bothers me is that this last arch of the storyline is TOO rushed. Things happen to quickly and its hard to follow from one issue to the next. Heck, they turned the Saint of Killer's war with heaven into what? one or two pages at the most. Something that epic should have been that...epic...but Ennis rushed forward cause I guess he just wanted the story to end ASAP. Too bad. All the action leads to nothing, the character's dont really in my opinion earn their reward at the end...Jesse and Tulip don't really seem to earn going off to the sunset...cause its hard to tell what the heck did they deserve to have a life happily ever after? and Cassidy? yes well we find out he made a "deal" with God...but that deal doesn't make any sense because...from what I seemed to have read through the storyline...God can't destroy or do anything to Genesis? But then he did? HOW for crying out loud!? It doesn't make sense. Where did Genesis go? Where is he now? I mean really... what the heck??? Just does not make sense.

That's why I say the series up to this last book deserves a 5 dispite its Christian bashing because its written so well and with such a strong cast of characters; sadly this one though just doesn't add up and is not worth it...leave off at All Hell a Commin' if I were you.
