Summary: Laugh-out-loud fun!
Review: I had originally intended to give this book to my best friend's 10 year old son, but I enjoyed it so much I'm thinking of keeping it for myself! While the text is informative and darkly humorous in its own right, the drawings are the most fun -- I especially loved the lightning bug! Maybe I enjoyed this book so much because I found it at a yard sale for 25 cents! Lucky me!

Summary: I'm disappointed, but he is still Gary Larson.
Review: Larson's greatest strength is in ascerbic visual sarcasm. The sharpest jabs in this story are found in the action on the periphery of the illustrations, which is classic Larson. Nothing is ever straight-forward, and the punch-line is in what you don't see, not in what is obvious. His writing, however, needs work: the illustrations are perfect, but the story is preachy and overbearing.

Summary: Much deeper than intended. What else did you expect?
Review: This is another gem from one of the world's (and I don't think I am over exaggerating) great author's. I initially bought the book for myself but it was soon discovered by my four year-old daughter.

Gary's lessons are so well presented that she started asking me dozens of wonderful questions about the world, nature, and most suprising to me, the death of her grandmother. After reading the book, and her hours of gazing at the drawings, she understood that death is something that happens. It is not ominous or bad or evil. It just IS. I didn't even imagine that this would come up.

Thanks Gary.

Summary: Hilarious
Review: Those who do not understand the punchline obviously do not understand Larson's characteristic humor. There's a Hair in My Dirt! is rather satiric, and therefore (and unfortunately) misses much of the population. If you liked the Far Side comic wherein a woman nailed the dog door shut and called her collie in for lunch, this is the same thing. Not for those who take everything seriously.

Summary: Gary, it's about time... and thanks for the dirt.
Review: Ha! Ha! Ha! Great stuff.

There's a Hair In My Dirt is a unique book created by a unique human about some (can I say it AGAIN?!) unique worms. This is not a book to be categorized or labeled or whatever. It's a book that intelligent (which covers a lot of ground) readers can read at a young age and enjoy for years to come. Humor is predominent in this "educational fairy tale." But the younger crowd can opt to throw away the educational part for the time being and jump into a barrel of laughs with Larson's drawings and his depiction of Worm Family Life. As the years go by, the growing reader may find more humor (irony, sarcasm, etc.) in the "educational, pontificating" parts. But, chances are, they will not be disappointed!

I'm certainly looking forward to reading the next Larson Picture Book. I wonder what he'll be serving?

"I Kicked Thumper's Ass." Ha, you kill me, Gary.

Summary: The book was great for anyone who can read!!
Review: I picked up the book in an airport to pass the time. I ended up buying it and laughed the entire 3 hour flight. In fact I'm still laughing at the humorous artwork, and cleaver text. I liked it so much I gave it to my father who is 71 and he loved it too. I can't wait for the next Larson creation.

Summary: Very COOL!!!
Review: I don't understand these people that say they didn't like the book because it was not for adults and it was too short...well DUH! Of course it is not for adults. What adult would want to read about a princess and nature? Sure, some adults DO like it, but they are not thinking of it as an adult book like some people are. I enjoyed this book because of all the little details in each page, and I think the story was quite creative. I would recommend this book to anyone, except those who expect it to take 30 minutes to read and not be for kids! I loved it and that is all I have to say!!!

Summary: Deliciously Larson!
Review: There's a Hair in my Dirt, was a wonderful addition to Gary's works. I believe that since he finally got himself out of writing comic squares he was able to let out what he needed. Which is not to say that he didn't do a wonderful job, I think he just needed a change. And his new book is just that, along with his classic sense of humor and a true to life message: "Everything is important." Anyone who reads this book expecting his same old stuff will most likely be disappointed. I beleive There's a Hair in my Dirt can provoke laughs and thoughts inside people of all ages.

Summary: great art, but the story...
Review: larson has written a book after a bit of an absence. the art is terrific. but the story...well, it isn't so good. i haven't yet decided on what age this book is intended (certainly not for adults). it is to simple for any half-decently educated adult. but i think it is a little too much for young children. maybe he meant this for 10-13 year olds. the tone of the book is a bit preachy. hopefully larson's next book will be a bit better.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: I feel like I have been ripped off
Review: Although the message and drawings are delightfully classic Larson, the book should sell for under $5.00. The up side is that maybe it will encourage Larson to do more. END
