Summary: A Love Story masterpiece
Review: It took me seven long years to finally find this novel. When I recieved it in the mail and openned it up, I was not dissapointed. As a matter of fact, this is the only piece of art (movies, books, etc.) that has ever really made an impression on me.

The story is a classic love and revenge story. Man and woman who are deeply in love are both murdered and man comes back to life to avenge their murder. However, James O'Barr has written this story with such a passion(this story is loosly based on his own personal tragedy). It's as if he bleed his soul on paper and put it into book form.

However, this book should be read with a slow pace. It is easy to miss some of the smaller things in this book. I made the mistake of reading it fast. I went back and read it slowly and it was five times better.

A must read if you are into a. Comics b. Love Stories or c. Poetry

Summary: A vision of wonders.
Review: So you open the cover, viewing already some magnificient artwork. Then there's the foreword. A touching thing to enter J. O'baar's graphic novel with. Then, flip of the page, and we have a memeralia for Brandon Lee, our friend whom died in the making of the moving. Generously, it's nice.

This story is a fine line on wonder, and mystere. Sadness, and despair. The whole imagery has a kind of emotion to it. Generally, I recommend this book for ages 16 and up.

I loved it.

Summary: True
Review: "The Crow" has become a phenomena for three reasons. First, it's a story that anyone with a mind can enjoy (and even some who dont). Second, it is a classic story. And Lastly, even in it's classic basics, the twists inspire new thought and question to the human emotions and mind. Even the artwork itself is marelously done. Many thanks and props to James O'Barr for bringing this vision to the world.

Summary: Very dated.
Review: I have to say I remeber the hype that surrounded the Crow comic in the early 90's but now in 2003 the book seems to lack the inital impact and here is a few reasons why.The story:It seems to be the typical cookie cutter story of revenge, heros girlfreind gets killed so he goes out and punishes the evil doers.2nd the characters:I won't bother to mention what I think of The Crow but all of his enimies seem to be very one dimensional the all have this "Yeah lets smoke some crack, rob a liqueur store and kill some people" attitude.III The dialogue: Come on,this is comics not high school poetry night at the coffee house. With inane lines like "I am Morphine for a wooden leg" and "Where the teeth of madness jump, jump dance and sing" how can anyone except for a 16 year old goth rocker in Iowa take this stuff seriously.IV The art: Just too awful for words. If you want to read some really some good comics check out Bendis run of Daredevil,Lone Wolf and Cub or allmost anything by Frank Miller so please save your money and buy something of quality.

Summary: This is the best graphic novel of our time
Review: This is the best graphic novel of our time. Nothing will ever come close to The Crow. The story and the art will touch every emotion in your soul if you take the time to read it. It is even better than the film. It is a beautiful haunting love story that is very poetic. It is well worth the price and it is well worth your time. The only piece of art that can ever compare to this is the Brandon Lee film.

You will love this book if you like The Crow but you may be let down if you want it to be exactly like the film. It is different from the film in many ways but the core themes of the story are the same. You will kick yourself if you don't give it a shot because it is VERY hard to find. I had to wait three years before I could find a copy. Do yourself a favor and buy this book if you like graphic novels. You will be blown away.

Summary: Poetic carnage candy.
Review: This is probably one of the best graphic novels of all time. The book that spawned a movie version starring BRANDON LEE (and a few lame sequels/series), is a LOT more violent and more poetic than the film. Understandable why they could not do a scene for scene for it would garner an X for the HUGE amount of bloody mayhem that presides in this book. Tons of action cannot deter the underlying sadness that exists throughout the story. The CROW in this tale is tortured to the point of insanity and spouts lines from everything from POE to JOY DIVISION. This graphic novel is for the mature reader who enjoys beautiful chaos. A true work of art.

Summary: Pain, Fear, Irony, Despair & Death....
Review: As one of a large group of obsessed Crow fans, i must say this is the greatest Crow series out of a long line of series. But this my friend, is the series that started it all. This graphic novel contains the comic books that began a legacy. The legacy of the crow. Without theese powerful epics, there would be no Hit movie, no Hit soundtrack, no sequels, no TV series, no Crow comics (this series or the other 5,6 or 7 series after it) or no action figure. This is a powerful epic, an epic of Love, Death and Revenge. The drawings are the best drawings to come of a single man, let alone the comic field. They are extremley dark, beautiful and detailed to say the least. The stroy (based on an incedint which traumatized the author, the extremly talented James O. Barr (Mr. Barr) - his angel girlfriend was killed by a drunk driver - and this is the series he worked out all of his rage and frustration out on. The bloody well done action scenes are gripping, and the dazzling splash pages are haunting. Some pannels are even frightening ("If anyone would like me to dial 911 please raise your hand"). This comic was also partially inspired by metal/punk groups such as Joy Division, Iggy Pop & The Cure. This is a must read, and a must own. If you think you are a true Crow fan, but have not read/own this - you'r not a fan. A Masterpiece for all time.

Summary: Sometimes love is stronger than death.
Review: Forget the movie. You must read the comic that inspired it. Eric is a man who was killed while his girlfriend is raped and murdered. Not in that order, either. It seems that such an injustice cannot live on, and Eric returns from the dead angry, heartbroken, violent and invincible. He takes savage revenge on those who tore his life apart, all the while reliving, through flashbacks, the good times he had with his true love, which both angers and motivates him. A love story and a violent bloodbath of revenge. I do not know what happened to O'barr to inspire this, but it is one of the most finely drawn comics, and heartbreaking stories ever. It gives us the hope that perhaps death is not final, and that God does correct the wrongs in life, in the form of a crow.

Summary: A soul in pain healed.
Review: This is one piece of writting that everyone should have. James, if I may call him that, wrote a piece that will always be aquinted with lost love. Anyone who has had a broken heart, or lost a loved one, knows the pain that James describes in this novel. I will not call it a comic, for no comic I have ever read before, or since has had such an impact on my soul as this one. In one broad stroke, James has changed graphic novel noir so completely that there is no going back. This graphic novel talks so completely of pain, vengence, and love. Yet, while the main character is on this quest, he also redems those around him. I would recomend this to anyone who wants to read a love story. For at its heart, It is about true love.
