Summary: Great Book
Review: If you read 'comic books' then Sin City is a must. It is a cut above the average comic book in art and story-telling. You owe yourself to check it out. Please don't let the black and white turn you off, it adds to the mood of the story.

If you don't read 'comic books' you should still read Sin City. It is an adult natured book and if you are a fan of film noir it is a great example of that genre. Get this book, read it, and you will be amazed.

Summary: Complex, But Yet Simple
Review: Frank Miller is one of the greatest in the comic industry. He brought out a darker Batman and a darker Gotham in The Return of the Dark Knight. This is the first book in the award-winning Sin City series, a modern/contemporary crime comic. The book is innovative in many ways. The black and white panels are very interesting. The characters are very complex, and the story is quite... 'different.' Although, it is very simple. Too simple. This is a 'must have' for any comics fan. It has good story, complex characters, and very powerful art. But, if you read mainstream comics, don't buy this book.

Summary: The only Sin City you should read, if any.
Review: I'll pretty much try anything Frank Miller puts out, and I highly anticipated this story in its original serialized form. Even though the ending, and the writing in general, was pretty poor, I still enjoy it for the action and art, especially the "handcuff fight".

Miller took a whole new direction with this story by turning to crime-noir in stark black and white. The problem is that this is pretty much ALL he's been doing for the past 8 (?) or so years: Sin City ad nauseam. And trust me, the stories and art only get worse. Enough already, Frank, there's only so much hard-boiled macho garbage I can take.

Summary: Any one who gives it less than 4 stars doesn't get it
Review: Any one who gives it less than 4 stars doesn't get it. Frank Miller has done something quite extraordinary here; he has re-invented an entire genre. The Sin City stories are amazing. The first panels will draw you in. Hard to put down and delightful to read, provided you aren't too squeemish. Read all the Sin City stories. They beautifully tie into together, overlap, and share characters. The city even breathes with life as a character in its own right. Frank Miller is the best reason to read comics.

Summary: It stands the test of time
Review: I've already reviewed this book previously about a year and a half ago, and I thought it would be interesting for those who are thinking of buying this book to see if they will enjoy it not only in the present, but for years to come. This storyline, and these characters are so intriguing and fascinating that you can't help but read the tales again. I've read them all, and occassionally, you just get the urge to revisit this place outside of reality, but then again, all so close. The connection you feel to the characters is something special if you can see yourself in them. You can't help but come back every once and a while called Sin City.

Summary: Brings noir to the present in style
Review: I found Miller's technique in this first Sin City novel flawless. There's some criticisms below about the story, but I disagree. Miller's tale is dead-on for what he was trying to do: carve a fast-paced tale in a style similar to Hammett, Chandler, Spillane, etc. while retaining his own mannerisms and dark humor. I loved this roller-coaster.

Summary: This is one of the only comics I still read
Review: I could never understand what the rave about Frank Miller's work was until I read Sin City. I read the entire book in one sitting, and reread it again and again the the same fashion. Miller has placed well used crime story formulas in comic books and made them fun again. It is great to look on the shelf and see someone who looks like someone I know, and not just another Superman clone dressed in cheap spandex and corporate marketing. He has given me inspriation to try new things in my own comic book Metro City's Finest. Thanks Frank!

Summary: "Noir" is good
Review: A masterpiece! Frank Miller redefines the "noir" genre in this wonderfull graphic novel, which is the beginning of THE saga in this kind of comics. But can we still talk about "comic", in face of those pages. Miller, like no one, uses black and white at his best, and there's really no need of colors. And the story, even if it's not the best told, is good enough to interest the reader. So, reader, come accross the streets of the town without pity...

Summary: Interesting art, worthless story.
Review: Two words, actually: Mind Trash.

What happened to Frank Miller? The guy actually used to put some thought into his scripts -- Daredevil, Elektra: Assasin, Dark Knight, Ronin -- but now he just churns out blood. Sin City's plots make no sense, the dialogue is cliched and the voice-over narration almost too cheesy to believe.

Sin City does feature the best Miller illustration I've ever seen. It's a shame, because if Ronin had been matched with this kind of Miller draftsmanship, it would have been the best genre comic of the '80s.

Oh well. Maybe Studio Proteus can package this garbage as manga, since the average Sin City issue only takes about four minutes to read.
