Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: And I even like shonen-ai... Review: ...but I don't like this. Mainly because the older Yuki Eiri is a complete creep to his rather hyper younger boyfriend Shuuichi and Shuuichi just takes it - and even comes back endlessly (and cheerfully) for more. I don't find it cute at all that Yuki verbally and emotionally abuses him. Same-sex relationship or not, Yuki's a distant, cruel jerk and the women in the story really ought to be relieved he's off their market... ::rolls eyes::I hoped it would turn out to be a 'thawing the cold-hearted' kind of story but after Volume 2 it just seemed to be getting worse with the only levening being Shuuichi's spastic antics. But those quickly wear thin, especially when put up against Yuki's painfully cool ennui. An internet survey of fandom told me that Yuki never *does* get any better. So I'm done with it. I even gave away the two volumes I had. The characters in the anime must be substantially different - or the music carries the day - because I was vastly disappointed by the manga offering of this supposed 'shonen-ai favorite'. A miss. Most definitely in characterization and storytelling, for me. I'll stick with 'Fake' which at least has charm and characters I actually *like*, if not much of a grasp on police-department reality.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The best in Shonen-ai Review: Before the graphic novels came to America, I knew Gravitation only as an anime. I adored the characters, the jokes, and the plot. I was not disappointed with the purchase of this book. I laughed at all the jokes, and marvelled at the differences between the manga and the anime. This is not a series to pass up, especially if you're a fan of Shonen-ai (literally, boy[to-boy] love) Shuichi is your average moody teen. Happy one minute, depressed the next. You'll enjoy this book, full of the amaeture beginings of the next Tokyo rock star!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Number 1 Gravitation Fan Review: Being a good fan of shounen-ai anime/manga, I had to pick this up after reading a review on it in the magazine Animerica. I fell in love with the series immediately after reading the first couple of pages. The art is great and the characters are pretty funny not to mention gorgeous. ^_^ I would recommend this to everybody. This is just a must read for manga fans. BUT IF SHOUNEN-AI(BOY'S LOVE) BOTHERS YOU, this book is definitely not for you. Personally I feel that you shouldn't knock it before you try. You just might like it.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: AT LAST! Review: Dood. Anime = Incredible. Manga = Incredible. GOOD SERIES. Yes. Ye must buy manga and either download or buy anime series. Great characters, plot, and art. Shounen ai GOODNESS. There is nothing more to say. It is immensely awesome shounen ai, which in itself should be incentive to BUY THIS BOOK. (no, this review is not helpful. I KNOW.)
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Wonderfull Romance Story Review: Ever since I have become an anime fan and fanfiction writer, I have been forever intrigued by Gravitation. I have heard many of my friends say it is a wonderful book, but I had never picked it up until now. I was blown away by what I read. Sure, my first thought was Anime American Idol, but it isn't really about that. I mean, it is about Shuichi Shindou and his band Bad Luck trying to make it big, but it's mostly a romance story. Eiri Yuki got me so angry at first, but then as you learn his situation, you come to empathize with him. And as for those shonen-ai, shoujo-ai homophobes, I feel sorry for them. Because they are missing out on a beautifully written story. Anyone who has an open mind and an open heart MUST try this book!
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Great Series, Lousy Translation Review: First of all Gravitation is one of my all time favorite series, and I own all the manga in the original Japanese. I was thrilled when Tokyopop picked up the series, but after a 2 month release delay, the finished product was very disappointing. The dialogue between the characters seems so out of character and frivolous. Gravi is a funny, sweet, and occasionally caustic manga about the truly emotionally dysfunctional. Here it just seems silly and dumb. Gravi is often silly (Mr. K!), but rarely dumb. Tokyopop has done a much better job on some of their other translations, I hope they can improve upon this, and give the fans the REAL Gravitation.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Dude. lol Review: First off- from the translations I've read, and from my own translations-- I believe Murakami does use "outdated" slang such as "dude". When I first got the Japanese mangas a year or so ago, that was the FIRST thing I noticed-- that Yuki was much looser in the manga, using "surfer" slang such as that ^^ I don't think you can blame all of that too much on Tokyopop. I believe the translation stayed true to the story. There are some changes, but they are quite logical in my opinion. They're catering this manga to the U.S.-- of COURSE there'll be changes. It's quite illogical to compare their translations to fan translations too-- I love fans who translate, fansubs are good, fansubs are FANTASTIC. But one must admit that the Japanese language, when translated line per line (which is what most fans translators do)-- sometimes, there are things that won't make sense. Companies work to translate a manga or an episode as a whole, making sure the first volume or episode is still going to make sense compared to the last episode, etc. When I first picked up the Tokyopop manga myself, I was saying things like "Oh, I hope they didn't change this and this and this"-- and when I finished reading, I was not disappointed at all. I thought it was still funny and quite witty. So, I very much recommend this to people-- it is a GOOD read.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Just...wow Review: Gravitation has been recommended to me many, many times by various fangirls, and I decided to order it just for kicks. (And because I'm a mad yaoi/shounen-ai fan.)
I opened the manga and practically died of happiness. From the beginning I was hooked and the plot ran away with me.
Gravitation is the sort of thing that actually deserves to be called a graphic novel because that's what it is! A NOVEL! It's the first manga I've ever been able to sink my teeth into. Sure the art can't always compare to CLAMP, for example, but it surpasses Chobits by miles, plotwise. Or it's the shounen-ai goodness talking. (That could be it.)
I WILL be ordering the other (12 I think it is?) manga, although perhaps not from amazon if I can find better prices.
The anime or the manga? From what I've seen, anime!Shuichi looks more 'kawaii' and clueless, when compared to angsty, deep thought manga!Shuichi. But I haven't seen the anime so I may be wrong. Eiri Yuki is an amazing character. I simply love his hateful exterior and his selfish way of life. Of course, Shuichi might end up changing that...with his TRU WUV~! and whatnot. (Bitter? Me? No, I'm not bitter!)
Now I'll just say...THANK RA FOR INTERNET SHOPPING.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Excellent manga crippled by poor translation. Review: Gravitation is an excellent, HIGHLY entertaining series about a singer who falls in love with a writer who is very cruel to him. Despite this cruelty, Shuuichi can't help but be madly in love with writer Yuki Eiri. Why? Because it's gravitation! And the law of gravitation states that you just can't escape gravity A message to Tokyopop: If you're reading this, PLEASE FIRE THE PERSON TRANSLATING GRAVITATION. Or at least get this person to do a better job! Everyone I know who has read this book has agreed that the translation is so bad that it's pathetic. Try a little harder in later volumes, please! Because the volumes that are out right now (1, 2, and 3) are translated so poorly that they're impossible to read a second time. Listen to our feedback, Tokyopop, before you ruin more of this series!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: One Word: Incredible. Review: Gravitation is THE BEST MANGA I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I loved every aspect of it. Yuki is the sexy guy we all dream about ^_~ Shuichi is the love struck child trying to get the attention he craves.
Gravitation is amazing. Even if you have problems with boyXboy stuff. I still sugest you read this manga and give it a fair shot.
