Rating: Summary: Really Funny Review: Okay, I think this is a funny book, but a let-down compared to some of Jim Davis's earlier books. In spite of this, it is still funny, and still gets 5 stars.
I like the comics dealing with Mrs. Feeny, and the ones dealing with Jon's Mom. I would like to see what Mrs. Feeny actually looks like, however.
Still funny, still entertaining, and cat's do not live to their 20's but it is a COMIC STRIP. A very good one compared to some of the unfunny crap in newspapers these days.
Rating: Summary: Scathing Underworld Review: This is a coming of age tale stupped in the lesser known nuances of the Comumbian drug cartel. Garfield grows older and wiser as he unabashedly experiments with mind expanding drugs. Plus there's a ton of nudity.
Rating: Summary: As someone who owns all of the Garfield books Review: This was truly a let down. I know after so many years it's hard to keep a strip fresh. But Jim Davis shouldn't let Garfield get so watered down. I've loved Garfield since I was a kid, and own all the books (Number 14 being my favorite), and all the other books Davis has released. I could pick up this book, and go through it without finding a joke that was new, or funny, which of course is a huge let down. Garfield is not Snoopy, where Charles Schultz made the Peanuts Gang interesting and funny as long as he wrote it. After reading this, you get the feeling that Jim Davis was out of new material 10 years ago, and he's just trying to milk the series for all it's worth. Cats don't usually live well into their 30's, so I believe it's time for Davis to start thinking of how to let Garfield ride into the sunset with a scred of dignity left. If you must purchase this book, stop in your local bookstore and leaf through it, to see if you still like it. I love Garfield as much as the next person, but not this way.
Rating: Summary: Survival of the fattest Review: What haven't I said about Garfield that I have already said before? Congratulations to Garfield in giving the public his 40th book of non-stop laughter. I grew up on Garfield the cat since the early '80s. Twenty + some years later, Garfield is still fat and still funny as ever. In his 40th book, Garfield is still up to his same tricks; making fun of Jon, abusing Odie, squashing spiders, and matching wits with Nermal the world's cutest kitten. I particularly love seeing Garfield squash spiders. It was good seeing Nermal make a brief appearance. I always loved it when Nermal would come to visit Garfield and antagonize the fat cat with his one-liners. No matter how old I am, I can never tire of reading the fat cat's antics. Jim Davis can do no wrong.
