Summary: The book is great
Review: I've been a big fan of Far Side comics since my youth. It's been a cultural icon for several generations of kids and adults alike. If you walk into any office building in America, you're bound to see at least one Far Side desktop calendar in someone's cubicle or office. This is why I was so excited when I heard that there was a "complete" anthology of Far Side comics. The comments written about some of the comics included in this collection is just icing on the cake. The entire collection is presented in two very pleasant (and heavy) books. You can see the high quality of the materials and print the moment you touch and open one of the books. Even the housing that holds these two books together seems to be very sturdy and well-made. Anyone who's chuckled at one of Gary Larson's twisted Far Side comics will love this "herniastic" collection. Personally, I have it crowning the top of my coffee table as it gives guests and myself something to read when you've only got 5 seconds to spare. I would definitely recommend getting this collection if you're a Far Side fan.

Summary: Excellent compilation
Review: I was just amazed by its sheer size. Didn't realise it would be this big and bulky when I ordered it. It is a set of two very high-quality hardbound volumes and probably weighs 20 pounds. It could be easily used as a weapon.

Gary Larson's wry humor is admired worldwide and his drawings have this surreal quality which makes them so enjoyable. In 1994, he decided never to make any more of those and has kept his word. I liked the first line of his introduction to the book.... "It has been seven years since I hung up the eraser."

I have been reading a month at a time when I get a chance. It is very enjoyable. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes 'The Far Side".

Summary: The best far side book ever
Review: Great book, a little on the heavy side but that doesn't matter. For any true farside fan the cost won't matter. Read a few pages and you'll start laughing.

Summary: You too can be entertained for days!!
Review: This was great! It took me back to when I was a youngster reading these books. I had lost all of my old Far Side books over the years and was pleased to find the whole colletion in 2 HUGE books. They are heavy, but just think of them as a work out for your arms. There are great extras too. My favorite is the hate mail that Larson received is published in these books. This is a must have for anyone who really appreciated the Far Side for what it was, a great escape into weirdness!

Summary: A Work of Art
Review: For manic Far Side fans, inclusding myself, this is a dream come true. Being born in the midst of the popularity of the Far Side, I missed quite a few of these delightful pieces of satire. With these volumes, I now see the evolution of the Far Side and its humor.
However, the fan letters, hate mail, and pleas from the confused do not compare to those in the Pre-history volume in quantity or quality, which is still my favorite.

Summary: Amazing
Review: For anyone who is a fan of The Far Side, this collection is a must have! I enjoyed looking at the cartoons in an almost exact chronological order, so I could compare the earlier works with the most recent. Gary Larson is consistent in his drawing and his humor. The letters from fans containing constructive critism will not dissappoint - I found myself reading ahead faster to find the next one. I had read almost every Far Side cartoon that had been published, yet reading them again in this book still made me laugh out loud. I am pleased to own this collection.

Summary: Brilliant
Review: These 2 volumes are a MUST for any Far Side fan. His cartoons not only play to one's basic humor needs, but makes you question the here, why, and how of many inane aspects of day to day life.

Summary: Superb!
Review: No one is funnier than Larson (and he has very few peers) on a roll. For those whose day was cheered simply by seeing what dark, irreverent, or otherwise totally off the wall idea he had created, the lack of Larson on a daily basis has left a huge hole that no one following him has been able to fill.

Far Side addicts, rejoice! This is a complete compliation of many old friends and a some not previously published ones, and if one reads these tomes slowly, it's almost like having a daily Far Side fix again. The books are of wonderful quality and the drawings are beautifully reproduced, well worth every penny! Plus there are fascinating essays by Larson that aren't available in any of the other compilations of The Far Side.

My only complaint is that the books are very large, heavy (each one weighs about 10 pounds -- I weighed them on my scale; in fact, there was a warning from Amazon about the weight on the package containing them) and a bit cumbersome to manage. Three or four volumes would have been better. But this is not an impediment to purchasing these books, because the content and the quality overcome this slight deficiency.

Enjoy!
