Summary: Speak
Review: This is a story of a girl who slowly withdrawls from people and life as she copes with a secret that is eating her inside. Fifteen year old Melinda is treated like dirt from the moment she calls the cops and has everyone busted at a party the summer before her freshmen year in high school. Unfortunetly, no one knows why she called the cops. Everyone hates her and she is seen as an outcast with no one to call a friend. Her parents are clueless, her teachers don't understand, her peers hate her, and she is falling into such a depression she can no longer speak. She is able to overcome all of this and find her voice again as she pours her soul and feelings into art. This is truly an amazing book that tells a touching story of a high school outcast struggling to find herself after a terrible injustice is done to her.

Summary: Speak Shouts
Review: The minute I flipped to the first page of the book, I was seduced and it kept me company for the next 3 hours. It was simply amazing to put it shortly and so accurate of the pains and suffering of an "outcast" in high school. It was so frustrating to see the main character, Melinda, go through so much pain. To see the isolation and lonliness of this girl as she experiences her freshmen year of high school. I absolutely loved the tone of voice the author conveys from the point of view of Melinda. The only dissapointment I had was the ending seemed very predictable. Thus, the deduction of one star. Please read this book. But remember, it will tie you up for a few hours. ^_^

Summary: A laugh out loud but easy in depth read
Review: I actually had to read "speak" for a school assignment but I would definelty recommend it to anyone that wants a pretty quick read that moves you. even though you may think that the issues represented in the book may not affect you, that is not true b/c every high school student has similiar feelings, even though their experiences may be different. I found that the main character, Melinda, was actually very different than the way I view myself but i could relate to almost everything she said and felt. I felt myself wanting to jump into the book, and scream at her and help her all at the same time. This book can be read quickly because its a little less than 200 pages and hard to put down. There were many times where i would find myself laughing out loud!

Summary: A Must for All Adolescent Girls
Review: I picked up Laurie Halse Anderson's book, Speak, for an assignment for my college literature class. I couldnt put the book down. It was so moving watching Melinda deal with the struggles of being the school outcast all because she is afraid to speak up and confront her rapist. Every girl should read this book. It is a must!

Summary: Recommended to any reader, any age!
Review: As a high school English teacher, I am constantly searching for books that will not only entertain my students, but hold their attention and make them want to read more. One of my students had this book in class one day, and I asked her if I could see it. I ended up borrowing the book and forgetting the grading for the rest of the day as I read it. I have never read a book that took me back so clearly to the pains and pleasures of being a freshman in high school. Melinda's "voice" (in writing) is true and poignant. Laurie Halse Anderson has put into words what so many teenagers feel at that point in their lives. The storyline if well-done and fascinating, but the details and the everyday life of Melinda are so well drawn that the reader cannot help but be pulled into her world. I got this book for my sister, a freshman in high school, to read, and I have given rave reviews to my friends and my students. If you haven't read this book yet, no matter what age you are, go out and get a copy. You won't regret it.

Summary: Speaks Volumes
Review: What an important book for young adults to read but especially young women. It teaches an invaluable lesson on taking charge and "speaking" up.

The book follows freshman, Melinda, around in what is her worst year ever. Over the summer something horrible happens to her at a party and when she calls the cops- all the kids blame her for ruining their good time. So at the beginning of the school year not even her old crowd will be seen with her. She wishes she could just tell them the truth about what happened, then they'd surely understand. But she can't because it becomes physically harder for her to talk as the year goes on.

Finally when confronted by what has happened to her, she does the right thing and fights back. She stands up for herself and what is right and most importantly she, speaks.

Summary: A different POV
Review: A new perspective into teendom. Maybe that person who has always weirded you out isn't just plain weird, they might have things going on in their life that you have no idea about. This was a fascinating story about a young girl who starts high school with a load of problems and no one to help her. In order to not deal with the reasons causing this she becomes mute. Eventually everything comes to a head and she fights back. This is an empowering story of a girl's struggle to SPEAK out. I promise this is worth your time!

Summary: A great book for teenage girls
Review: I think the book Speak is an excellent book for teenage girls to read, so they know what is going on in the world. I also think that it is a great book, to tell you what High School is like, but how not to deal with your problems. I think the books message is don't be afraid to speak your mind and don't keep everything inside of you. It is better to Speak than to keep quiet. I have even recommmended this book to my class, last year when I read it. I love this book and I think every teenage girl should read it.

Summary: Speak
Review: The novel speak is a story written by Laurie Halse Anderson. This book is about a freshman girl named Melinda Sardino from Syracuse NY. She went to a party over the summer and something terrible happened there. It was so terrible that she had to call the cops on somebody at the party so the cops would come.

A couple weeks after the party got busted school started and just the beginning Melinda's problems started. At school everbody hated her because she called the cops on the party and the people at the party got in trouble. But they had no idea what had happened to Melinda at the party, they thought she called the police just to be mean and get them in trouble.

Melinda didn't talk to anybody at school because they all hated her, and she thought nobody would listen to what she had to say. If at the party she had just come out and told everybody what happend she wouldn't be going through all of the things she is now. If she just built up enough courage to come out and tell everbody then maybe they all wouldn't hate her and understand what she went through.

I think this is a good book to read. Especially for woman because it teaches them that sometimes all you have to do is come out and "speak" . It would help them not get into a spot where she was. If they have a problem similar to this and they read this book then might come out and fix what happened.
