Review: This novel is has a special place on my "top books of all time" list. It's about a ninth grade girl who is basically the school pariah due to the fact that she did the unthinkable during the summer--she called the police and causing a party to be busted. No one, not even her old friends, will speak to her, and because of this, she sinks into a world of silence. Her parents don't understand, her teachers don't understand, no one understands. No one understands because no one knows what caused her to call the police in the first place, much less why she's immersed herself in a world void of speech.I found the writing style to be rather interesting and unique. It was almost diary format, with random thoughts and tangents thrown in along with the story. Normally, I wouldn't like something that didn't have some sort of structure, but I really enjoyed "getting to know" the character and listening to her thought process. I could really relate to the things she said and the things she felt. This book really communicates the trials and tribulations that a school outcast struggles with. It doesn't spare details; the blunt voice of the character hits you like slap in the face. It's a great read and I recommend that any teenager should read it.

Review: this book was about a teenage girl who got raped at a party and called the cops. she becomes a total outcast and all her old friends are now enemies. this book is really good because it has an inspirational ending and everything is modeled exactly like a real high school year. the way it relates to your life-wether you're popular, you have friends, or you're an outcast- is unbelievable. this book is a must-read!!!

Summary: Speaking the Language
Review: SPEAK by Laurie Halse Anderson literally speaks the language that I use, that my friends use, and that I'm sure, try as they might to forget, my parents and older siblings once did. It speaks with the voice of a child who has grown up too fast- of a teenager in the all too familiar situation of the first day of school- of an adolescence. Ms. Anderson does a phenominal job promoting my generation- the generation of individuals that will grow up quickly just to have those four years of glory. I recommended this book to two of my friends after reading it. The first (her name is Tricha) is not a friend of literary works, and although she is an average student, she does not like reading anything that is optional. She finished Speak in a week or two (good for Tricha) and loved it. She could relate to the feelings and emotions that Melinda had. Another friend (Kate) had the total opposite view- that Melinda was childish, and that she did not make wise decsions. I debated this accusation, with the fact that Melinda was a child inside a teenager's body, a girl that could not face her fears or speak to anyone. I believe that with my fifty percent success rate, my recommendation is as good as any. PLEASE READ THIS BOOK!

Summary: A Great Read!
Review: The first thing I noticed in this book is the different writing style the author has to a lot of the books I've read. I love the way it is set up. The story of Melinda is told in a way that makes you feel as though you know her and you understand how she feels. You can feel and see her shutting down throughout the freshman year and want so much to be there to comfort her. I finished this book in two days. I couldn't put it down. I've already recommended it all my friends and they say they can't wait to read it. This is a great summer book for any teenager!

Review: Speak is a book about a high school freshmen named Melinda. Melinda's problem was something happened over the summer at a party that made her lose all her friends and her best friends. When Melinda attends the beginning of high school none of her friends wants to talk her anymore. Now she has no friends. When she walks around school everyone talks about her.The reason why the book is called "Speak" is because they want Melinda to speak for her rights and say what really happened at the party. I recommened this book for 13-17 year olds is because the book is basically about high school and teen problems.

Review: Speak by Laurie Anderson This book is about a girl name Melinda.Melinda was a freshman in highschool.Melinda was faced with a problem in the summer time that caused her to loose all of her friends. Melinda was invited to a party and got rapped.She called the police and the came and asked questions and arrested some people that were drinking. So from that day on everyday she would walk down the hallway in school and she could hear everyone talking about her. I really thought the bookwas called Speak because they really want Melinda to speak out and tell how she feels. I recomend this book for readers that are in highschool because this they are more mature and ready for this book.I like this book very much because I am going into highschool and I would know how not to react if this occurs to one of my friends.

Review: I thought this book was really good it has lifelike meaning and almost every body can relate to it.This book is about a girl named Millinda who at the end of her freshmen year goes to a popular party and gets drunk and something happens to her, she calls the police. In the begenning if her sophomore year everybody hates her,they talk about her,do all these bad things to her,she doesn't do anything back,until the end she tells her ex-bestfriend what happened.I recommend this book for mature teens because of the content and strong message.

Review: There is not enough compliments in the world to give this book. Finally an author came along who wrote a book about high school life that is realistic. Her characters could be related to people I have known before, which made reading the book twice as fun, since I could make comparisons with my own life. Every high schooler should definitely read this book.

Summary: Speak says volumes to the outcast high schooler
Review: Laurie Anderson has captured the feel of high school in her book Speak. As a high school teacher,I see these behaviors daily and discuss them with the students themselves.The feelings of the main character have been felt by everyone to some degree, making her a very sympathetic heroine. The character's secret is telegraphed a little early (thus the 4 stars instead of 5) but you already care enough about her to finish the book by then. My students sometimes say I have no heart, but I cried several times, as this young woman's pain brought back memories of my own. This is a must read for freshmen, who often find the transition to high school difficult.
