Summary: Speak
Review: This is a story of a young girl who will not speak. As the story unfolds you will find out why and will live her life as an outcast. As an educator my eyes were opened to what role we can play in the lives of our students. Its a must read for all ages.

Summary: Speak up about "Speak"
Review: When I chose this book as a school assginment, I didn't expect to find a book I loved, that I just couldn't put down. From the first page to the last, this book draws readers in through Melinda, a teenage misfit with a huge secret. I won't give it away, but reading this book is a definite must, for school or for pleasure!

Summary: One of the Bestest
Review: This is without a doubt one of the most interesting books I have ever read. Melinda's world and life are told through her humorous and totally believeable story. Many things in this novel I could relate to my own life. In this story, Melinda lives her life as a social outcast, her former friends refuse to believe her existance. This novel totally sums of the life of a high school outsider in a very interesting and very funny way. This has got to be one, if not the absolute best book I have ever read. You have to read it for yourself.

Summary: I loved it.
Review: I loved "Speak" because the showed the side of a world few have seen. You will not be able to put this story of a teenage misfit down as you read about her problems at home, school, and in life in general. The author writes with such admirable voice and emotion, you feel like you are the girl. Yay.

Summary: Speak
Review: Speak was the best book I ever read!! I reccomend it to any girl. Melinda goes through a lot of problems, like with friends, boys , and parents. The end is VERY Dramatic. Laurie Halse Anderson did a great job with details. I didn't want to put it down. About the book: Melinda is a freshman in high school and . At a party during last summer she gets raped but doesn't confront the person. Not even her ex- bestfriend knows.

Summary: Life In Her Eyes
Review: When i discovered this book it felt like a breath of fresh air. Although the topic may not seem attractive; to a 15 year old girl it was everything i needed to get me through a life similar to Miranda's, now 17, i've read the book at least 3 times over. Her ability to reach above her own boundaries and fight back for what she believes in is truely impowering to young girls like me. The book has been passed around my friends for 4 years now, the cover is torn, the pages are worn, but the experience that the book gives you cannot be kept to oneself. Once you read it, you have to pass it on so that someone else can feel the book too.

Summary: Good book for reluctant readers
Review: After reading the first few pages of this novel, your experience with the book will "speak" for itself. This novel is written in a journal form and would be excellent for students who are reluctant to read. It would also be a great read for those students who seem to not always "fit in."

Melinda, who used to be a totally different girl, now hardly speaks to anyone since a situation that occurred at a party over the summer. The book takes the reader through her first year in high school and the difficulties she encounters due to that one fretful night back in the summer.

Without any friends, Melinda has a hard time finding herself and figuring out where she fits in. Throughout her freshmen year, Melinda begins to open herself up through an art project her art teacher, Mr. Freeman, assigns her. She begins to finally be honest with her feelings and finds the confidence to speak out about that summer night.

This novel will make you laugh out loud but will also make you reflect on the bitterness that Melinda is experiencing. It is a book that emphasizes the importance of facing our fears and finding healing so we can move on in life. It will be a book that will leave you with something to "speak" about!

Summary: Dale Dodson
Review: I highly recommend this novel. Speak addresses the issue of teen rape and what happens to the girl who is raped. The main character of the book is Melinda. Melinda was raped at a summer party by one of the popular upperclassmen how she calls "It" throughout the book. Melinda is shunned by all of her friend for calling the police to the party after she was raped. All of her friends do not understand what has happened. They just know she has called the police. As a result of the rape Melinda starts to remove herself from society both at home and at school. She starts refusing to speak to people. In the end she is able to come grip with her situation and tell people what has happened. She is also able to face and defeat "It". This is a great read and would be a terrific book for teenagers, both male and female.

I must also add that I have used this book with some of my children and they have enjoyed it very much.

Summary: One of the Best New Books
Review: If you are 13 or 331, you have to read this book. Eloquently written, it starts slow but moves quickly to an exciting climax. (If I told you what it was, It would give it away!) I've read this book twice. No, three times. Well, anyway, all I know is that I have stayed up until 12:00 last night to finish this book, I couldn't put it down!
