Summary: Meghan Taylor- Bak Middle School of the Arts
Review: In the book Speak, it very well portrays the life of Melinda. It was written in first person, which made you feel connected to the reader. In doing so, you are able to understand this teenager's life, and all of her struggles. You begin to feel sad when she has a rough day, and worry when she comes near "the beast." I enjoyed this book very much, and feel an understanding of other people who struggle, because of this character. It is very difficult to read through something where the character has absolutely no friends, or anyone who believes her story. It's so appalling to "watch" people antagonize someone because of what they think that person has done. The author has done an amazing job of creating real-life situations, where the "Martha's" come along, and take away your friend. It shows how much "segregation" there is in high school, and how everyone feels that they are defined by which group they belong to, where ,as Melinda learns, is not the case at all. All together, this book was very meaningful and awakening as to what was really out there.

Summary: Speak: Find your voive
Review: Have you ever tried to just forget about things, but you just can't seem to drown it out? That is what Melinda Sordina, a freshmen attending Merryweather High School, tries to do all the time. Something has happened to her that she just can't forget about. Her parents don't understand her anymore, she has no one to talk to, no one to lean on for support and she has no place to go to. She thinks the only place safe is in her mind although that isn't even safe; she just wants to forget about things, and never go back to that night. The night she called the cops on a wild end of the year party, no one knows why she called the cops, but now none of her friends will talk to her and some people she doesn't even know hate her, no one will even give her a chance to explain herself. When she tries to talk to teachers or even her parents she just can't seem to speak she stutters and just cant seem to speak out. If you can't seem to find your voice just like Melinda Sordina read the book Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson. It helped me find my voice maybe it can help you find yours.

Summary: Speaking the Truth
Review: Melinda sat quietly and bit her fingernails until they began to bleed. People pointed and whispered at her as she wiped away the blood. She had no friends.
At the end of last year, in eighth grade, Melinda and her ex-best friend Rachel, blackmailed Rachelfs brother into taking them to a high school party, complete with seniors and drinking. Everyone gets drunk and the party gets a little bit wild. Melinda doesnft think to just go home, though. Instead, she calls the police. People start screaming at her for being so stupid, and Melinda runs home. Almost everyone else is arrested.
Now Melinda has nobody to hang out with, except for the new girl, Heather, who eventually ditches her for the gMartha Stewart Wannabesh. Even Rachel, who was her best friend, constantly reminds Melinda how much she hates her. She tries to avoid it, and block it all out, but when Rachel starts going out with a senior, she canft. Melinda knows this kid is bad news, and she doesnft want anyone, especially not someone she used to be so close to, to get hurt. But Melinda canft stop her from dating him. If she tried, she would finally have to speak the truth.

Summary: Speak Review by Faysal
Review: Speak is an excellent novel. It is the only book that I would recomend people to read out of all the ones my English teacher made me read. This book puts you in the set of a typical highschool (mostly). It's about this girl called Melinda (Mel), who everyone seems to hate for busting the party (nobody actually knows why she called the police). No one at school talks to her, not even her old friends. At school she gets involved in art, its the only class she really seems to like. She makes comments on all the stereotypes at school (most of them are from her point of view), but I'm sure she had her own reasons for making the comments. Anyways, she makes a new frind in school, advances her skills in art, and almost at the end she decides to tell the world about what really happened at the party ...

Summary: great book that will get you thinking!!!
Review: 'speak' is a wonderful book that will keep you reading far into the night. it is the story of a young girl, melinda, who enters high school as just another average high school student. average, that is, except for her one secret that seperates her from the rest of the world: she was raped by a senior at a summer party where she called the cops.

the story follows melinda as she tries to forget about her ordeal and live her life the same way as before, only with less friends, a permanent 'freak-who-ratted-everyone-out' label, and the constant fear that andy 'beast' evans will strike again.

this is a story about the courage to fight back and the re-discovery of yourself. a definite must-read!

what i really enjoyed about the book was how the author [anderson] could make it seem so real and so personal. she really got us exploring the depths of the human mind and the raw emotion felt by the character. it really makes you think twice before making fun of the 'outcast' in your school; who knows what they've gone through in their life.

Summary: A book that you don't wan't to put down
Review: This book was about a girl that went to a party and something happend then after that no one liked her at school. She never fit in the groups or anything. What I liked about this book was it talked about this girl and her hole life story. Like she never fit in at school or she never had friends. Everything she did there would be a problem behind it. What I didn't like about the book is it dragged on I mean it would be on the same topic for the longest time. Ohther than that I really liked it.

Summary: Speak- great fiction
Review: Speak is a great piece of literature. It is fun to read and has moral value. It is about a girl who has a painful secret that she doesn't dare tell anyone. You'll be just as hooked as I was when I read it.

Review: I work in a children's library so I spend a lot of time reading young adult books. This book is one of THE BEST I have ever read. It has been about seven years since I was in high school, but when I read this book I felt like I was right back there. This book really touched me. It captures life and emotion in high school perfectly and I would highly recommend it to anyone 13 and older.

Summary: Very well written!
Review: Speak was an amazing book. I, being a teenager, can easily relate to some of the factors in the book. I know how she feels. I would reccomend this book to all teenagers, boy or girl. I think that everyone would enjoy this book. It keeps the reader hanging on to every word. Anderson is a fantasic author and has done an excellent with one of her first novels, Speak.
