Summary: Lots of memories
Review: I loved Peanuts when I was a kid growing up in the '60s and '70s and I remember many of the cartoons from that era that appear in this excellent volume. However, I didn't pay much attention to Peanuts during the '80s and 90s, so this book provides a convenient way to catch up on what I missed over the last twenty years. Of course, if Charles Shulz hadn't recently died, I doubt if I'd have even bought this book at all... I'm sorry to say that, but it's true. However, I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who will be buying this book for the same reason, fueled by a sense of curiosity, loss and a little bit of regret that they hadn't kept in touch with the Peanuts gang for so long.

Summary: Truly, a must have for Peanuts fans
Review: This book is one of the finest published by Charles Schulz. By reading it, it is possible to relate more to Mr. Schulz as well as each of the characters. Comments are made on special strips as well as the thought processes behind storylines. Surely, this book will be a treasure for all.

Summary: Legendary!
Review: It seems like once every 5 or 10 years, there has been a book about the history of Peanuts. This one is almost complete, considering it came out a month or 2 before Schulz's surgery right before his retirement (which I think helped alleviate the devastation of the sad news on 12 February). It'll probably be a collector's item since Schulz stated in this book he had no plans to retire.

This book features some of the best Peanuts cartoons, and touches only briefly on the classic Charlie Brown TV specials (the book's only disappointment).

Mostly, this book emphasizes what I love about Peanuts. I love Charlie Brown because he's the perfect everyman, somone like you and me (mainly me). I love Linus for his philosophical viewpoints (he has the answer to everything except why the Great Pumpkin never pays him a visit!). I love Lucy because she's dared to say and do the things we only wish we could! And I love Snoopy because he can do it all (a shortstop, a World War I Flying Ace, a vulture, a dancer, an author, and Joe Cool!)!

Goodbye, Sparky, and thanks for everything! You'll be missed!

Summary: Charles Schultz (Bless Him) Has Yet ANOTHER winner!
Review: I bought the 25th Anniversary book when it came out in 1975 (I still have it) and saw this book at a friends house and came right home to order it. Now that Mr. Schultz is gone, it will mean even more to me, because Charlie Brown (and the whole Peanuts gang, for that matter) are 6 months younger than I am (I was born in November of 1949 and he started the "Peanuts" strip in May of 1950) and I have loved them since my mother first read the strip to me and bought me my first book in 1959, which I also still have. Bravo, Charles Schultz, and God Bless you and thank you for 50 wonderful years!

Summary: A Wonderful Tribute, Now A Memorial
Review: A beautifully done book detailing the career of the late Mr Schulz from the 50's all the way to the 90's. Sadly, as Mr Schulz has passed away recently, this may also serve as a bookend to a wonderful life. The impact of Peanuts has changed forever the comic strip medium and a good number of the most popular strips are represented here. Mr Schulz also shares thoughts about his strips throughout the book. Rest in peace, sir.

Summary: A WONDERFUL FINALE
Review: I knew Charles Schulz, and knew something of what he wanted accomplished in this 50 year retrospective. He fought, honestly, against some of what his fans certainly wanted: a full retrospective of the entire career. His interest during the first conception of this book was on how Peanuts had developed in recent years.

Any artist believes that his most recent work is his best work, and in Schulz's case I would be hard pressed to say that any decade of the 50 years he spanned was the only golden one--his career achievement was golden enough to color any decade. He was not an easy man, or a comfortable one and his feelings about the quality of his early work must certainly have influenced the author and editors of this volume about what they could or not include. Still it is a marvelous tribute to his career.

I think this is a book that will last for all Peanuts fans, and more important still, for all Charles Schulz fans. So buy the book if you can find it. If you can't, let them know you demand that it be brought back to print. (And ask why it hasn't been in print since last fall).
