Rating: Summary: An excellent book for devotion and study! Review: I have long searched for a daily devotional that could deliver both a lesson in Scripture and an encouraging, devotional thought for prayer and reflection. There are many, many devotional resources out there, and I've found that most suffer from (in my opinion) one of two drawbacks: (1) more focus on the author's thoughts than on Scripture itself, or (2) thoughts that seem random, even forced, and don't follow any particular pattern from day to day.
Daily in His Presence stands apart from the crowd in both its arrangement and its content. Each chapter contains a month's worth of daily readings and devotionals that all relate to a specific topic...for example, prayer, worship, etc. Although each day's reading is drawn from a different part of the Bible, there's a continuity throughout the month. My only criticism is that each reading only identifies a very short passage, usually no more than a single verse. This is easily solved by simply reading the Bible chapter, or at least sub-section, surrounding the day's verse.
Each day's reading will increase your knowledge of Scripture, and bring you face-to-face with aspects of your spiritual life that can use improvement. Andrew Murray writes from a true desire for a personal relationship with Christ, and his passion to share this way of life with his readers is evident. One of the truly great ministers and writers of the 19th centry, Murray's devotional thoughts (fueled by his desire for spiritual renewal and revival in the church) are just as relevant today as 100 years ago...and perhaps more so.
I recommend this book HIGHLY!
