Rating: Summary: Classic treatment of an important topic Review: There have certainly been many books written in the last 30 years or so on the biblical theme of the "principalities and powers." This book is, more or less, the one that "started it all." Berkhof's seminal work essentailly set the standard and trajectory for all future treatments of the powers.
Berkhof examines the biblical descriptions of the powers, particularly the Pauline development thereof and then goes on to examine the powers as creacted in Christ, fallen and destined for redemption. He then examines the role of the church in relation to the powers.
Those that have read "The Politics of Jesus" will be familiar with many of the themes of this book. Howevever, it is important to read in its own right. This is a seminal and important book that really started a vital stream of theological work on an important biblical topic.
