Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Solid Explanation of the Basics
Review: Charlene Altemose's book, What You Should Know About the Mass, is an excellent introduction to those who are new to the Catholic Mass. In the book, she discussed some general ideas of thanksgiving, sacrifice, praise, worship, and community. Then in the following chapters she concisely and accurately describes the who, what, when, where, why, and how of the Catholic mass. Readers will find information on persons involved in the liturgy, liturgical colors, liturgical items, the order of mass - explained, and a brief synopsis of the liturgical year.

I have used this as one of the textbooks for freshmen in Catholic high school, and it is easily understood by the students.

My only critique of the book is that it does not treat the notion of real presence with any depth, but then again, it is an introductory book.
