Rating: Summary: Half the Story Review: Adam Downey from above refers to a chapter and verse from Exodus, however he only provides a portion of scripture. The entire verse reads "If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but their is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the womans husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life." Exodus 21:22-23. The serious injury refered to indicates the injury to the child. This misinterpretation is similar to the problem with this book. The information can easily be modified to fit the writers own agenda. I do not recommend the book.
Rating: Summary: ABORTION: MY CHOICE, STAY IN DENIAL Review: I am a christain woman who, having found myself in a crisis pregnancy at the age of 21, decided abortion was the solution to my problem. I never imagined the high cost and far-reaching effects this 3-minute procedure would have on my life. Many years later, after seeking the Lord's healing for my post-abortion pain, I felt an overwhelming desire to share my story with others. I began by speaking to my church. I had no idea how my church family would react. I could only hope that they would love me with the love of Christ and show me the same mercy, grace and forgiveness I had found in Him. Thankfully, unlike most of the women in this book, they did respond in such a way. I have since spoken to many different groups and have only been thanked for helping so many to understand the after-effects this terrible tragedy causes in so many lives. Seems to me most of the women in this book haven't truly come to a place of repentance for taking the lives of their children. Also, most of these Christian women need to quit carrying a chip on their shoulder as big as a mountainside. I have yet to feel any sense of condemnation from a single individual with whom I have chosen to bare my soul. I wouldn't recommend that anyone waste their time or their money on this book. Instead, try reading "Her Choice to Heal", "A Season to Heal" or "Abortion's Second Victim". Maybe some of the women in Eggebroten's book will read some of these true stories of God's grace and come out of this denial they're still in.
Rating: Summary: Book reviews or evangelization? Review: I guess you just don't understand, Ive killed my child and we call it abortion, I thought it would be easy but it's not, how can anyone write this BS I will never know. She has never gone through what I have, having my baby suctioned out of me, ripping its limbs apart, I saw it in the suction tube. The abortionists say it's a blob of matter it is not, it had legs, and arms, and a face.. How can I ever forgive myself. I killed it.
Rating: Summary: NEEDED INFORAMTON Review: I read this book several years ago. I recall thinking how refreshing and helpful this information is & needed by so many women today. It is a relevant book. Initailly, I was put off by the title and some parts, which discussed God. I remember thinking how brave and lucky these women are. We all trials & tribulations to reveal about our life. I, too, had a pregnancy to deal with when I was 20 years old. I decided to be a single mom. It would have been much easier to make & face my decision after speaking to other women in a similar situation. While reading this book, I recall thinking how painful & agoninzing it must have been for some of these women to make their final choices.
Rating: Summary: Half the Story Review: I would like to say that this book should be read by everyone. However, I would have to add "everyone with an open mind." This book "spoke to me" because it also examined the lives of those who did not choose abortion. One particular story was especially noteworthy: The woman asserted that she'd rather stick a needle in her eye than have the baby and give it up for adoption. For those who haven't been traumatized by adoption, it's easy to pontificate: "Choose adoption, not abortion." It's easy for critics to talk about how terrible abortion is. But have these same critics actually experienced the pain of losing THEIR children to closed adoption? In good conscience, I could never ask any woman to do this!! In good conscience, I would have to point out that you do BOND with a child you carry for 10 lunar months (whether you can admit that to yourself or not). The memory of that pregnancy, of your 30 pound belly, of that birthing experience, of that human face that emerged from YOUR body, the loud, first cry of YOUR infant son or daughter--that memory will be replayed in your head a thousand times in your life. In good conscience, therefore, I recommend this book to others. I salute the women in the book for having the courage to tell their stories. I salute the publisher (a Christian publisher) for having the courage to publish this book.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful book, what's the hatred? Review: This book is a wonderful testimony to the way so many women find peace between their faith and one of the hardest decisions they will ever make. I was touched by the stories. As college student who works as an educator for Planned Parenthood, I am around many pro-choice persons who have come to the mistaken belief that Christianity and a pro-choice position are incompatible, or at least that abortion is a sin. I am a proud and practicing Catholic (remember, the Church teaches that ultimately, we must follow our conscience in all matters, and mine is 100% pro-choice - besides, the Church's teaching on abortion has never been declared infallible) and I see no contradiction. But it is interesting that the only side that accuses its opponents of being false Christians is the anti-choice side. What a sad testimony. Having been raised by fundamentalist Baptist parents, I can sympathize with those who oppose abortion; however, I see our humble, loving Lord as standing with the women as they go through such a heartfelt and serious choice. Why can't we agree that there are simply different interpretations of Christianity -and that just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean that they are inauthentic? The Bible says nothing directly about abortion. But a note of interest: in the Old Testament, the penalty for murder was death (Gen. 9). However, in Exodus 21, we find the situation of two men in a brawl who injure a pregnant woman. If she dies, they are put to death. But if only her fetus dies, they are fined. Now I'm not a biblical inerrantist, but for those that are - how does that square with the statement that Christianity is absolutely opposed to abortion?
Concerning the Exodus 21 passage. Notice the unkindness which so frequently characterizes the pro-life position. This is unfortunate, because most who are pro-life tend to be genuinely caring people. There was no need to cast aspersions on my intention. I merely gave a brief response. As to the reader's exegesis, s/he is apparently unfamailiar with biblical Hebrew. First, in Hebrew, the statement "so that she gives birth prematurely" is literally "so that she miscarries"--the Hebrew does not indicate a live birth (see the NRSV, the translation most favored among biblical scholars). Thus, "serious injury" at this point refers to the mother. And it literally says "harm" which is more easily interpreted as referring to her death than "serious injury." Thus, if the mother dies, then the persons responsible shall be put to death; if she miscarries, they shall pay a fine.
Rating: Summary: What a wonderful book. Review: This book is amazing. Anne Eggebroten, whoever she may be, is genius! This book is what every woman who, young or old, white or black, has struggled with the concept of abortion needs! The poignant stories of each woman's experience stay with the reader long after the book is closed. Any man or woman should read this book. It offers a glimpse into the many struggles women go through in the abortion process. Definitely worth a read for those whose religious beliefs clash with their liberal views, or those simply interested in the personal accounts behind a national issue. Buy It! Right Now! You will not regret it and it will be money well spent.
Rating: Summary: Abortion: My Choice, God's Grace : Christian Women Tell Thei Review: This is a much needed book! The author has my Thanks because it helped me to better understand this very difficult and important issue. I think the women's stories in the book needed to be told as there is very little written detailing the experiences from Christian women who have been through an abortion. I'm sure many women are grateful! Also the book has resources of groups from both sides of the issues who are working together on how to lower abortion rates. Ms.Eggebroten is a courageous author to give the women in the book a voice of their very intensly personal and painful experience!
