Summary: Easy to read Bible
Review: I find this to be the closest English version compared to that of the King James Bible.This Bible is very closely written to what the King James scriptures read and it is very easy to understand, I have to buy another one because mine is falling apart....if you decide to buy this..get the hardback! Summary: Not a Catholic Bible
Review: If you are looking for a Catholic Bible, this is not the one for you. This Bible does not include the Deuterocanonicals/Apocrypha.

Summary: More of a commentary than a translation
Review: The Good News Bible utilizes a "dynamic equivalence" (thought for thought) method of translating. But there are potential problems with this method. I will use a representative verse to demonstrate such problems, quoted from the GNB and the more literal New King James Version. The NKJV renders the first part of Romans 1:17 as, "For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith." Meanwhile, the GNB has, "For the gospel reveals how God puts people right with himself; it is through faith from the beginning to the end." First, "it" has been changed to "the gospel." This is probably what "it" is referring to, but God inspired Paul to write a pronoun, not a noun. Second, it is true the Gospel, "reveals how God puts people right with himself." But, this rewrite misses the emphasis on God's righteousness in this passage. It is because God is righteous, and we are not, that we need the Gospel. Third, "from faith to faith" could be one of the statements Peter was referring to when he said that in Paul's epistles, "are some things hard to understand" (2Peter 3:16). There are several possible interpretations of this phrase. The GNB has chosen from among these and rendered the phrase in such a way that only one of these is possible. Maybe the GNB's interpretation is correct, maybe it isn't. But one would not know the GNB has in fact already interpreted this difficult phrase for its readers unless a more literal version like the NKJV is consulted. So due to its dynamic equivalence style of translation, the GNB significantly alters the text. And worse, it actually interprets the text for its readers. As such, the GNB is more of a commentary on the Bible than a true translation of the Word of God. The above was adapted from my book "Differences Between Bible Versions." Summary: Great Bible
Review: This is just what someone needs for overseas ministries. I like the size of the print, easy to read, and easy for Spanish speaking people to understand. I am buying more to take with me on my next trip to Central America.

Summary: Beautifully simple
Review: This translation of the Bible is written in a way that is very easy to understand. It is not merely a "re-wording" of a previous translation (such as the NKJV), but is a translation that was created to be both true to the original Greek/Hebrew/Aramaic texts and also easy to follow. It is written at approximately a 7th grade reading level--not meaning it is aimed at a younger audience (as are some translations), but that it can easily be understood by all.
I received my first GNB in the 9th grade, and even though I'm all grown up now and use primarily the NKJV for my studies, I still occasionally return to this Bible to help me get a better understanding of a text that is otherwise difficult for me. (I like to dig into ALL of the Word, not just the "easy" stuff.)
This Bible, in my opinion, would be PERFECT for one who is unfamiliar with some of the "thickness" of the NKJV language, such as someone who is new to their faith or someone who does not hold English as their first language.
I think that this is a very valuable study tool, and would honestly recommend it to anyone.
