Is this Study Bible right for you?
-------------------------------------------Choosing a Bible is very personal and often emotional decision. There are so many different Study Bibles because each takes a different approach. The Life Application Study Bible has earned a wide following with its excellent charts, diagrams, and tables. Other Study Bibles such as the NIV Study Bible attempt to be as factual as possible in their commentary. Its study notes try to explain references and historical context. They do not attempt to apply God's message to your life. They try to provide facts to help you build your own personal relationship with God. The LA Study Bible's dust jacket claims something very different from the rest: "...Its notes not only explain difficult passages and give background information about bible life and times, but they go a step further - they also show how God's Word speaks to every situation and circumstance of your life..." If you want to consider a variety of opinions, you might consider doing an Amazon search in Books for "William Barclay." His books often present a number of opinions, often from opposing points of view. The LA Study Bible viewpoint is sometimes one of the most extreme. If you want to be told one perspective to apply to your life, the LA Bible may be perfect for you. If you want to find your own personal relationship with God, you might want a more objective and informational commentary such as the NIV Study Bible or other Study Bibles. The NIV Study Bible might also be one to consider if you want a basic Subject Index or Concordance included. The NIV is also available in a rugged hardcover version like a college textbook or a less expensive paperback version. The LA Bible's dust jacket may not hold up as well to wear and tear. Also the NIV Study Bible has twice as many study notes and footnotes. Whatever you decide, the most important thing is to read any Bible!

Summary: Feels a bit dumbed down. Study notes a bit odd...
Review: Actually, this translation isn't quite as accurate as you might think. In fact, it dumbs things down so much in some cases that it becomes inaccurate. It's fine for most of the Old Testament, but the words of Jesus, hard to interpret, are dumbed down, and the Epistles are even worse. As an example, when Jesus uses hyperbole ("I tell you, in order to be my disciple, you must hate your mother and father, your brothers and sisters, and yes, even your own life!"), the NLT would translate it rather stupidly ("I tell you, if you want to be my disciple, you must love me more than your mother, father, brothers and sisters."). I'm not saying this type of translation doesn't work, because it does, but I think when you flip it around like that it loses something. What Jesus meant was that your love for him should be so great that, in comparision, your love for others, even your family, would seem like hatred. Your love for Jesus should be so much larger that any other love, in contrast, is small. If you buy this Bible, make sure you also have an accurate translation (NIV, NRSV, RSV) to compare to. Also, the study notes in this Bible, in some cases, sound more condemning than anything. Instead of explaining what is going on, it's constantly telling you how to shape up your life. I suppose it is a Life Application Bible, though, after all. I recommend the Quest Study Bible and the Oxford Annotated Bible over this one.

Review: I have bought 2 The Life Application Study Bible the NIV and the KJV. Both are GREAT.
The application part is better in the NIV for the most part. The KJV is easier to follow in church, because of the format.
This Bible will help everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: Is this Study Bible right for you?
Review: I've always liked how the King James Bible sounded, and this Bible does a good job of making it entertaining. Unfortunately the strength of the actual translation is killed, and unfortunately this bible has no soul to be saved, because of the actual study notes which are pretty silly at times. They try to remain non-demoninational but seem to be courting towards the Moderate-Conservative Christians the closer you get to the Gospels. Which I don't praticuarlly like, but then again, I'm not a mainstream Christian, so I shouldn't much complain.

Summary: Very enjoyable reading!
Review: I've used the NLT Life Application Bible for approx. 3 yrs & I find it to be a great all around Bible for all levels of study. I speak English & Spanish fluently, & know that many times when you translate a word literally from one language to another, the original meaning can be lost or confusing. NLT focuses not only on literal word translation, but conveying the original meaning of the text. Many times I "catch" my wife looking in my Bible to clarify the meaning of a scripture she just read in her Bible. Because the NLT is translated in the most modern idiom, it is very enjoyable to read. That's important because if you have to struggle with words or meanings, you'll be less apt to pick it up & read in on a regular basis. I'll read mine for hours at a time. Who said reading the Bible can't be fun?!! The Life Application Study Bible is designed not just to give you "head knowledge" but to challenge you in your daily walk with Christ. It encourages one to live the words you are reading. The layout of the book is "user friendly". The Study Notes are relevant, clear & concise. It offers an array of maps, character profiles, & book intros. One final thought.. No ONE translation accurately captures the original meaning of every single word perfectly. That's why many Pastors and Bible students use several translations to supplement their favorite translation. I mainly use the NLT, but cross reference with NIV, NASV, & others. Review: The Bible itself is a work of art. The KJV translation, although beautiful, can be quite hard to understand. That is where the Life Application Study Bible KJV comes in. This Bible is packed with information to help you in your quest to study the Bible. There are notes, charts, a great concordance and many other features that will not only help you to understand the Bible, but will show you how you can take the Bible and apply it to your life.

I love the translation because it is accurate, and easy to understand. The footnotes are excellent !!! Really gets You thinking, and helps You to apply the scriptures to Your daily life .I have used other study bibles. This one is My favorite. Extemely user friendly. I know this bible is a true blessing to alot of people.If You want to be sure its the study bible for You, Go to your local Christian bookstore and page thru one first.I'm sure You will love it with whichever translation You decide to buy.
