Rating: Summary: jason perry's "you are not your own" Review: Although this book's intended audience is the younger set -- late high school, college and young adult -- this 57 year old man found it very helpful in providing God's direction for me. When God brought me to that point of stripping my past failures from me (see Putting Your Past Behind You by Erwin Lutzer), my question was "Now what?" The answer from God was provided to me through Jason's testimony. I followed the plan outlined to Jason by Pastor Tim -- Bible reading and memorization -- and my life has completely turned around -- no more fear -- no more doubt -- I'm 100% sold out to God. He has given me so much grace -- because I followed His plan for me as outlined by Pastor Tim and Jason. This book was SOOOO good, that I purchased 15 additional copies and gave them away to the young people in my small church. Praise the Lord for Jason taking a stand and making his testimony available to us all. Thank you, Jason. Thank You, Lord!
Rating: Summary: This book deserves more than 5 stars! Review: Before coming across this book in a "secular" book store, I had never heard of Jason Perry or Plus One. I don't believe in accidents-this was a true blessing from God-a gift straight from His hand to mine. I am a parent of two teenage daughters and a young son and I plan to read this book with each of my daughters and with my son at the appropriate time. I also coach the cheerleaders at my kids' school and plan to use Jason's book during our devotional time. This book has given me some insight and confidence to address some issues with "my girls" (cheerleaders). I am a coach only because I have a strong desire to impact their lives for Christ-not much else-because I really don't know much about cheerleading! I pray that God will continue to bless Jason in a marvelous way and others through him as well.
Rating: Summary: From a 19yr old guy Review: If your a guy, get past the boy band thing and READ IT. VERY POWERFUL BOOK, Nuff Said. - Later all...
Rating: Summary: Thank you for sharing, Jason! Review: Jason Perry became an adult while with the very popular Christian boy band Plus One (he left the group at the end of 2002). Once you read this book, you will realize that he also grew up spiritually as well.Think of "You Are Not Your Own: Living Loud For God" as an autobiography of Jason's walk with the Lord. Although it is a very short book (only 127 pages), Jason has bared his soul to us completely. He not only shares the good, but the bad as well. Many people, especially those who grew up in the church, should be able to relate to Jason. God has worked wonders in Jason's heart, which will become very obvious to you as you read the book. Though written for an audience his age and younger, even those like me who are (much) older will be touched by Jason's openness and honesty. Thank you, Jason, for listening to the Lord and sharing with us. I have been truly blessed by it.
Rating: Summary: How could I choose less than 5 stars? Review: Let me admit it right off, I'm a fifteen year old girl who's a Plus ONE fan and Jason is probably my favorite member. Does it surprise you that I'm interested in this book? When I first started reading it, I noticed right away that Jason had help, and some techniques of a more experienced author stood out against words that I knew were his. He said himself: "I don't even like to read, how can I write a book?" So why did he write a book? It wasn't because he had a passion for writing or wanted to create a #1 best selling huge moneymaker. He wrote it anyway because he had something to say and he knew God wanted him to say it. I'm sure a lot of girls picked up the book because they liked the guy on the cover. But as they read I'm sure they found out this isn't about Jason Perry, it's about God and what He's done in J's life. I found it very inspiring. If Jason could live his life like he was totally in love with God, why couldn't I? It struck me that my parents would like this book. He said some of the exact same things they've been having a difficult time trying to convince me of, but as soon as I heard it from him, I immediately accepted it. It's nice to hear Godly advice from someone who's older, more mature and experienced, but who is close enough to our age to still deal with the same issues we are. As I read on, I found out that Jason has some great thoughts on the benefits of purity, the fulfillment caused by giving everything to God, the value of Bible memory, making good choices about what kind of music to listen to, and what kind of friends to hang out with, and how to act towards the Plus ONE guys if you ever meet them. What I've learned from Jason has greatly affected some of my decisions; few people that I've never met have influenced me so much. If you're a teen and you want a book that will help you deepen your relationship with God, here you go, and if you're already a Jason appreciator it will feel like you're getting council from a good friend. Now, what don't I like about this book? Can I find something, or am I too biased as a fan to admit that even the Plus-Oners can make mistakes? Let me think, Jason does his job by including info about what it's like to be in the band, he includes lots of Bible verses, the content and sincerity are admirable and he doesn't make his story too long or boring. Maybe I would complain that his face being on the cover is to self-promoting, but that's how people recognize him anyway. Don't all previously famous book writers do that? Finale verdict: No complaints, only compliments, to the author of "You are not Your Own."
Rating: Summary: jason perry's "you are not your own" Review: Ok i'll admit it right now... guilty as charged... i'm a big plus one fan. At first it was cuz of looks but that's changed alot in the past few months. when i read Jason's book i was amazed... he's so open in the book. he tells things that if it were me i'd be kinda afraid to share with people. Jason isn't amazing because he's cute or he has a good voice or because he wrote a book, Jason is who he is because God made him that way. God has used Jason, and the guys of Plus One in my life through their music. I would definately recommend Jason's book to any teen(or even adult probably). I know this is a "you are not your own" review... but while i'm at it i'd also recommend and of plus one's cd's. The Promise, Obvious, or even their new one that's about to come out... Christmas...
Rating: Summary: Kristy Webb Age:25 Review: This book "You are not your own, live out loud for God" is absolutely awesome. I love Plus One, and when I seen on here that Jason Perry had wrote a book I had to buy it and see what it was like. I love to read. In the past I have read things about praise and worship and about prayer and I always get inspired when I read those books but when I read this book I was just as inspired. If you are a youth pastor or a youth, you both will definetly love this book. Jason is so open in this book and tells things about his life that alot of teenages go through. My sister and her husband are youth pastors at the church that I go to and I'm starting to take over discipleship now and I've already decided that this is the first book that we are going to read. Jason tells about in this book when he was going through his rebellious stage and the terrible mistakes he made and then shows you how he repented and now how his life is and how on fire for God he is. I'm getting ready to buy 5 more of these books right now. All I can say is if you buy this book you won't be sorry.
Rating: Summary: Answer to a mothers prayer Review: This book is a true blessing. I purchased this for my soon to be 15 year old who is obviously a PlusOne fan. But, I went one step further and read it with her. I would encourage other parents to do the same. It was such a blessing to read about his feelings on a few topics. Some of those happen to be a few that we have already taken a stand against. As parents we know that sometimes it takes someone else to say what we have been saying for it to have any meaning. He stresses accountability and your relationship with the Lord. He talks about how the things you choose to see, hear, or participate in will hinder your walk with the Lord. Then he goes one step further and provides you with scripture to back it up. I highly recommend this to any parent that desires to supply their children with the necessary tools to help them make those right choices.
