Summary: Gnosticism in a nutshell
Review: I had read several books on gnosticism before I read Illumination, and I'm glad I had. Amundsen has captured the essence of the gnostic message in 80 pages. He was able to tie together a whole bunch of stuff that my mind hadn't really been able to get its arms around. He puts the message of gnosticism into a modern frame, which I think is what needs to happen today. We need a 21st century exposition of gnosticism and this book is a good start. I appreciated his sort of matter-of-fact, in-your-face (but politely done) depiction of the human condition. I've read the book twice and will do so again. If this is your first book on gnosticism, you'll probably be left with a bunch of questions... or maybe not. If you've already read some books on it, this book will collapse a lot of what you've read into a clear, concise understanding of the essence of gnosticism. This book spoke directly to my heart. I'm looking forward to receiving and reading Amundsen's commentary on the Gospel of Thomas. Thanks!

Summary: Great starting place in studying Gnostic Spirituality
Review: This book is not a boring, scholarly study in the history of Gnosticism. It is however, I very strait-to-the-point summary of one man's Gnostic viewpoint. I liked that it was short and sweet, like a good punk rock song.

Read it!
