Summary: Entertainment with a deeper message.....
Review: As a believer I found this book witty and entertaining. I'm not pushing the publication for it's accuracy in addressing the atheist, (since I don't personally know nor have ever encountered a card carrying atheist yet) but it gave me a lot of material in defense of God the Creator. The book did seem to "jump around", but the antedotes and illustrations were amusing and enlightening. I have personally given this book away to brand new believers and unbelivers and it has changed their lives. One, in turn, wrote to the author, Ray Comfort, to commend him on the book and Ray sent her a whole "care package" of Christian materials as his gift. I do recommend this book - don't expect it to be super intelectual or too deep..... very light, and easy reading. I beleive it's perfect for the non-Christian.

Summary: excellent as simple, down to earth reading
Review: I personally thought that Mr Comfort did an excellent job of taking an age old debate and putting it into easy to understand ideas. I'll be the first to admit that the reading doesn't always present itself in as highly intillectual. However, the ideas and arguments that Comfort makes are enough to be convincing and make this book a definate must-read for believers and non-believers like.

Summary: If you think this book is bad, you haven't got a brain
Review: If I were a theist, I would buy up all the copies and destroy them. This certainly is not going to convert a reasonable reader and contains nothing new to anyone who has been there, let alone a free thinker. The author defends unreasonable absurdities in the Bible with the same old mysticisms that have been touted for 2,000 years. His facts are few. He defends the barbaric acts in the Bible to a loving God. For example slavery, killing for not keeping the Sabbath, for abortion and homosexuality, etc. At least some would attribute the atrocities to mistakes of the authors and not to a Creator of Universes. The author uses the unreasonable, theistic definition for an atheist; one who has scoured the universe to say that there is no God. An atheist is simply, by the root meaning of the word, one who does not believe in God. He doesn't because he doesn't believe in Mother Goose, Santa Claus, the tooth fairy and doesn't talk with imaginary friends. I'm certainly glad I didn't spend more on this one. This certainly is no enlightenment to a free thinker, much less to a died-in-the-wool theist.

Summary: People still stand by these outdated arguments?
Review: If you are a theist and you want to read a book that will allow you to continue believing there's justification for your beliefs than don't let me stop you read this book. But if you want to question your beliefs I'd suggest Why Atheism? or Atheism: The Case Against God, both by George H. Smith. If you are an atheist and you have already read Smith's books you can also read this book to confirm that he wasn't just blowing down a strawman, people actually use these illogical arguments to prove their beliefs.

Summary: A Godsend!
Review: This is one of the best books I've read ina long time, I got this when I was one a mission trip to New Zealand, with Teen Mania (teenmania website) and this has totally helped my witnessing to athiests, among other people! Mr. Comfort is an awesome writer, and very funny! If you're looking for a book that will change your witnessing experience, this is your absolute best bet!

Summary: Eye-opener; not perfect but hey it's just one book!
Review: Yes, agreed, it won't "convert" any hardened skeptic within the first 10 pages. And some of the arguments are based on illustrations and analogies (CS Lewis is often criticized for the same method).

However, it will raise a lot of questions for those who think the whole "God-or-not" debate is all cut-and-dried.

And for Christians who are looking to bring up "things of God" with their friends, family etc. there are a lot of issues and illustrations that can act as springboards... For the 90% of people we deal with in witnessing who are not PhD in philosophy and "master debaters" this book is a good "giveaway" to open their eyes a bit.

For the other 10%, who feel no point in even "debating" because they automatically exclude the non-physical/supernatural reality, well I would have to suggest you instead point them to some thought-provoking and logically solid commentaries and arguments found on "http://str.org/" - Stand To Reason. Yes, folks, biblical Christianity is reasonable and defensible! ...But then again some people are just so self-righteous and afraid of accountability, they will never be convinced ("And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not." Acts 28:24)

PS: For more of Ray's teachings, visit [the ray comfort website] and listen to the free online audio. It just might be life-changing or life-saving! *It'll at least make you laugh quite a bit (if you have "the gift of discerning quality humour", that is.)
