Summary: A compassionate zeal for truth
Review: I have spent the last several years looking at many of the various sources on this subject; most very good, yet nothing like this one. I have wanted to find something that would address the errors of this particular belief system but without the arrogant attitude many others have had. This is one book that will be recommended to those who have not been able to see the errors of the "Toronto Blessing" and the charades of the Pensacola/Brownsville "Revival". Ted Brooks writes with understanding and compassion for those who are caught up in this deception. I urge you to read this book.

Summary: Throw out the baby with the bath water...
Review: Ted Brooks has written a personal story as well as an expose' of sorts pertaining to his involvement with the Word/Faith group.

While I acknowledge that there have been abuses and extremes (every quarter of the church has these) the main thrust of the Word/Faith teaching is still solid.

The real problem for Brooks--and people like him--is that they question certain teachings based upon a few or even many events that happen to them and around them. When they do an introspective and honest appraisal of their doctrinal affiliation and decide to change, many times, they completely throw out everything they believed and start over with a "fresh" perspective. Needless to say, they consider themselves "experts" on what they formerly believed and are ready to criticize and "rescue" those who are involved in the teaching/practices that they themselves were once a part of.

I have seen this trend over and over again. Instead of dealing with the excesses with the Word of God and holding fast to that which is good, whole systems of biblically-correct thought are discarded for a return to "traditional beliefs."

Mr Brooks rightly criticizes the extremes but in the end, throws out the baby with the bath water. And since when did we ever base our opinion of any system of theology on the experience of a man? No, you have to compare what you believe with scripture and judge what you hear by the same standard--the Word.

Apparently, Ted Brooks has examined himself and has found himself wanting with respect to his theology. He has every right to call himself "flaky" and to steer his ship in another direction, but it would be unwise for the rest of us to assume that Ted Brooks is completely "right on" in his assessments of the Word/Faith crowd or any other crowd for that matter.

Two stars for pointing out some extremes but no more for throwing out the baby...

Summary: Honest and Courageous
Review: This book confirmed many of the concerns that I had about my own church. Ted Brooks is honest and courageous for re-examining his beliefs based on the Word. It is a must-read for Christians of any denomination.
