Summary: Misleading at best
Review: Ambiguous and wishy-washy. Sister Charlene has a cleverly hidden agenda, which is unfortunate as this book is meant for those who have questions about the Catholic faith. The book features copious quotes from censured theologians. Perhaps the most disturbing part of this book is the presentation of fundamental option theory (which has been condemned by the Church as incompatiable with traditional teachings). I recommend books by Dr. Scott Hahn or Kevin O. Johnson for those who want to learn about authentic Catholicism.

Summary: A good basis for background
Review: I am a teacher of religion to Senior High School students. I have a Master's in Theology and have been a teacher for 13 years. I have been looking for a book that gives a good, basic overview of the huge amount of ritual and systemic theology written in such a way that you don't need a theological degree to understand it. I am pleased with the range of material covered and the presentation of complicated theories written in ways that the "average joe" could understand. I have found this a very useful tool to help our kids and would recommend it's use to anyone.

Summary: Why Do Catholics...
Review: I have to agree with the first reviewer...this is a very helpful book! The second reviewer has totally missed the mark! When I came back to really become a Catholic, after having been baptized and yet away from the church for many years, this book was invaluable. It helped me to understand why Catholic believed various things. I've used it many times, for my own understanding and as a resource as a teacher in CCD classes. Highly recommended!
