Rating: Summary: Women at the Well Review: I discovered this gem when I was going through an emotional crisis in my life, as well as the after-effects of major surgery a few months earlier. I had never felt such comfort from a book outside of the Bible, but the scriptural references led me even deeper into God's Word. Each daily passage opens with a verse of scripture or other inspirational writing, followed by a few paragraphs of testimony, and a short prayer. They were written by a wide variety of women who have experienced the gamut of physical, spiritual, and emotional challenges to them and their families -- cancer, polio, Alzheimer's, sexual abuse, divorce, and the death of loved ones, to name a few. Each brings her unique personality and perspective to describing how she came to the Well, and the strength, guidance, and courage she received there. Each woman experienced customized healing, sometimes in the form requested, at other times in entirely unexpected ways. Sometimes it happened through the intercession or healing touch of others, sometimes it was by way of cathartic expression, such as dance or painting. This book is so powerful, I have bought five copies to give to friends who were also in need of special comfort, and I have shared individual passages with many others. As a daily devotional, I read it twice. As a volume of testimony to the grace and compassion of God, I will keep it forever.
