Rating: Summary: War and the Gospel Review: Lasserre's book, written in 1962, provides a thorough and very readable examination of all relevant New Testament passages and possible pro-war arguments. It contains detailed analyses of the sword at Gethsemane, Romans 12-13, the question of taxes to Caesar, Christ's temptations and suffering, etc. Provides a Christian ethic of relating to the state (re: patriotism, etc.). Also includes discussions of the death penalty and the police. This book provides possibly the best and most compelling case for non-violence for evangelicals. A must-read for all who have avoided this issue and want to delve into it.
