Rating: Summary: Developing Children's Liturgy: A Step-By-Step Guide Review: Help! My class has to put on a children's liturgy next week and I don't know where to begin. This is the way I felt until I read Developing Children's Liturgy: A Step-By-Step Guide. As a teacher, I was trained to work with children in the classroom. But I didn't receive any guidance in working with them in church. One of the advantages of this book is that it is divided into three parts, depending on the reader's previous background knowledge. Last year, I definitely needed the "learners" section. It walked me through my first liturgy with a checklist of things to do. I felt really confident following the guidelines. Having used the learners section several times, I have moved on to part two and feel confident in my liturgy planning. I'm becoming more familiar with the "Directory for Masses with Children" which is included in the book and am able to comprehend my real purpose in developing the liturgies. I'm looking forward to using part three as I discover my options, substitutions, additions, etc. that can be part of the liturgy. Having all this information on planning children's liturgies all contained in a slim volume makes this book very teacher-friendly. I would recommend this book to other teachers in Catholic schools or anyone involved in religious education programs who needs to develop Masses with children. The use of the planning worksheet, and help in selecting appropriate music, environment and prayers, has made my preparation so much easier and meaningful.
