Rating: Summary: Inspiring Review: '"if an infinite God gave us a book no bigger than this," I thumped my Bible down on the table, "it sure seems like it would be worthwhile reading."' - from the book.Frost makes the arguement that we cannot know Jesus if we don't know the Bible, and we cannot know the Bible if we rarely read it. He gives a plan for reading the Bible through quickly on a regular basis, and gives example from his ministry on how this has changed lives. He also suggests doing it with a partner, with weekly meetings to review what you've read. The second part includes suggestions for how to keep it fresh. I called this review 'inspiring', because he has inspired me to read through the Bible this summer. - something I haven't done in years. While his suggestions seem like common sense, the stories and encouragement he gives make this book well worth the price.
Rating: Summary: read the bible! Review: I heard Ron Frost speak at our church retreat. He really inspired me to read the Bible (not just "read through") because he spoke as if he had the entire Bible in the back of his head. (he probably does!) I have tried the read-the-bible-in-one-year many times before and have always gotten stuck on Levitucs or Numbers. After my last attempt, I just gave up.. However, after hearing Ron speak, I also read this book. Aside from being VERY inspired by what the POWER of God's words can do to people's lives, I also learned of different ways to go about Bible read-through. Doing it with a commited partner is an excellent idea! This book is not a commentary. It doesn't give you detailed analytical steps to "how to read the bible". Time would be better spent reading the Bible itself if that was the case. Instead, this books sums up the Bible in a way that reveals to us that it is important to understand each book/chapter in a LARGER CONTEXT. Most of us read, focusing on a specific passage and we lose the central idea of the ENTIRE Bible. Ron explains the importance of understanding the entire framework of God's plan, and how we can relate to it. His testimony as well as many others will inspire us to try to grasp this greater picture. (many people, myself included, read mostly NT and barely touch OT. Just to mention as Ron said, we limit our vision of God's work/plan/purpose to about 1/4... hmm... imagine how our lives will be greatly impacted if we can grasp the entire vision!)

Rating: Summary: Great Bible study model & call to experience God personally Review: Why do so few people actively read their Bibles? What significance does the Old Testament have on the lives of Christians today? How can I have more success in my personal Bible study? In "Discovering the Power of the Bible" Ron Frost offers some very practical and insightful suggestions to get you going with Bible reading. There are several real life examples given in this book of people whose lives were dramatically altered as they experienced God through personal Bible study - beginning with the author's life. This is a GREAT book and I can personally attest to the power of it's message. If you've never been a part of a Bible read through - I strongly recommend doing so. Ron Frost's book can help you. There is nothing more satisfying than experiencing God through reading his word!
