Summary: Guzie's treatment incomplete
Review: Guzie's book is interesting, and in some ways even inspiring, but it minimizes the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Guzie turns the Eucharist primarily into a horizontal (communal) reality while leaving out the vertical dimension. My guess would be that Guzie also considers the resurrection of Jesus to have been a subjective experience of the original disciples rather than the objective reality that the Church holds it to be.

Summary: Best book I've read on this subject
Review: My first exposure to Tad Guzie was in high school theology class; he is still a favorite after many years. For anyone interested in getting to the bottom of the origins of the communion rite, how it evolved, how it has often been misinterpreted, and how it can have meaning for a modern Catholic, this is the book to read. It may be tough to locate a copy, but it is worth the effort. As Andrew Greely states in his one sentence review: "Simply the best book there is on this subject."
