Review: A Must for Serious Bible Scholars!
I came upon the Orthodox Jewish Bible about a year ago and must say that it has been the single most important blessing in my life except for meeting the Messiah for myself. There is a hunger in me to explore the Word of G-d in the original language and Dr. Goble has made it his lifetime work to provide this excellent tool so I can do this without any pryor knowledge of the Hebrew language.

Summary: Unique Translation
Review: Goble's translation of the Bible is unique in the world of Bible translations. Unlike David Stern's Complete Jewish Bible, Goble's translation is loaded with Yinglish (Yiddish and English vocabulary).

It appears as though Goble translated it for the very religious Ashkenazi segment of the Jewish population. This translation will not appeal to all (Messianic Jews included), but for those with the prerequisite background it should prove to be welcome addition to anyone's collection.

Review: I don't know enough about the Bible to believe my version would accurately translate so many difficult phrases, but from what I do know, Goble seems to have hit the nail on the proverbial head in every place I've looked. Goodonya, mate. It's a useful tool, I think, for those who are genuinely searching for a way to read something in their own language, albeit a very small minority of people.

Review: I have tracked Dr.Gobel's publications through the years. In an honest and unbiased way, Dr.Gobel makes the Scriptures come alive in their revelations and applications.

Review: THE Orthodox Jewish Bible (OJB) is an outstanding resource that provides deep insight into the meaning of the Scriptures, especially for those raised in an Orthodox Jewish home. Hebrew terms of which the reader may not be familiar are clearly defined within the running text [in brackets], providing direct access to the original language references. These helps also amplify the English by indicating grammatical and textual nuances only available by studying the Masoretic text.

Dr. Gobel has done a great service in providing such a compelling translation of both the TaNaKh and the B'rit Chadashah.

Summary: Misleading
Review: there is nothing Orthodox or Jewish about this translation. It is written from a Messianic, ie Christian, point of view, which is OK if that is what you set out to buy, but misleading, and offensively so at that, if what you wanted to buy was an Orthodox, Jewish bible.

Summary: A Purim Joke
Review: This is one of the funnier things the misleading Messianic movement has come up with recently. This is the New Testament translated into 'Yeshivish' with all sorts of translation and pronounciation errors which make it even funnier. I once printed out a few verses to hand out on Purim so the chevra could have a good laugh.

I think that they have gotten rid of the more overt 'Yeshivishisms' like 'Lechoira' etc... but it is still hilarious.

I would say that this translation has the precise opposite effect of its desired intent, but then they might stop making it and that means less fun for us all....

Summary: The Orthodox Jewish Bible by Philip E. Goble
Review: We have a Judaica book and gift shop. We sell other bibles, tananchs, etc. The Orthodox Jewish Bible with Tanach/Old Testament and Brit Chadasha/New Testament is the best on the market. The reasons are as follows: (1) you follow the Hebraic context, (2) you learn Hebrew words with either the definitions besides the Hebrew or in the glossary, (3) it is an easy item to sell. In the short time that we have carried this item, we have sold more copies than we had anticipated.

One of the words that is used in the Gan/Garden of Gethsemane is "daven". This happened when Y'shua prayed. Have you ever seen Jewish men praying. They move their head forward and backward. After I had read this for the first time, I knew how Y'shua had blood coming from His Head. He was davening/praying so hard and vigorously that the blood poured from His Head.
