Rating: Summary: A fantastic book of prayers Review: Though not well known in the English-speaking world, evangelist and author Christoph F. Blumhardt (1842-1919) was one of the great Christian thinkers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, having influenced many pastors and laymen, including Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-45), Karl Barth (1886-1968), and Emil Brunner (1889-1966). Blumhardt spent his life putting his Christian ideals into practice; leading evangelistic rallies, faith-healings, protests for worker's social conditions, and even as a legislator in Württemberg. In all things he followed a life calm and patience, coupled with love and action. This book of Blumhardt's prayers was collected right after his death, as a labor of love, and was intended for his close friends. These prayers formed the backbone of his evening devotions; they start with a short Bible passage and speak of love, and humility, and patience, and most of all of serving the Lord. This is a great book, with many excellent prayers in it (one for each day of the year). I most highly recommend this book to all Christians!
