Summary: Returning The Cross To Its Rightful Place In Our Churches
Review: An excellent book that challenges the Church to return to the centrality of the cross in its faith and practice. Kirkwood has uncovered a major defect in evangelical Christianity, the absence of the cross in our preaching and living. He shows how the "accept Jesus for a better life" gospel is contrary to the gospel of the cross that was proclaimed by the apostles. Kirkwood clearly illustrates in his book how this faulty gospel has contributed to a church that is void of God's power to save and has produced a generation of "so-called" Christians who demonstrate no distinguishable characteristics from those who have not experienced God's grace and forgiveness. If the church would return to the message of the cross in its proclamation and experience, then we would once again witness God's power in our churches and individual lives. A powerful book that has challenged me to carefully examine the gospel messages that are widely preached and taught in evangelical circles today. A MUST READ for all serious Christians who want to know why the message of the cross must remain central to the church's faith and practice.

Summary: a must read for every Christian
Review: I found this book both a blessing and also heartbreaking. A blessing because it refocuses the true central message of true saving Christianity. It is also heartbreaking because it reveals how today's so-called "Christianity" is not true Christianity. The Bible says, in Acts, that the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch: so much for having Him as Lord and not Saviour! And Jesus said "If any man will come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me." But instead of crying the prayer of John the Baptist "I must decrease and He must decrease", a true example of the cross in action, we are too busy praying the "Prayer of Jabez"!!! I highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to know the truth of true Biblical Christianity!
