Rating: Summary: Christian Dogma: an awakening for modern "searchers" Review: Barry Blood's book, CHRISTIAN DOGMA, arrived in my mailbox the 6th of July; I finished it on the 7th. The book is a fresh take on religion/Christianity/churches and all that those terms include and imply. Via email, I was informed of the book's publication only because Barry Blood is a former schoolmate of mine. I might have paid little or no attention to the subject IF that email had not come to me.To the author, I wrote a similar version of the following comments. Long ago I RELEASED (for want of a more precise term) religion/church/usual beliefs and had almost forgotten how it felt to question any and all sets and fragments of belief in a divine being "out there." I experienced enormous freedom of reach and stretch and love and joy (truly) when I realized I no longer subscribed to or believed in god or gods or divine providence. That euphoric feeling and freedom continue to BE my life. This release has allowed love and caring to replace fear and guilt about life, both specifically and generally. Blood's choices of support texts and materials provide good, strong guidelines (guides!) for anyone seeking knowledge of the evolution of logical and reasoned "truths" revealed and shared in these modern days. This is honest help for anyone looking for truths (as much as possible) rather than myths! The book's simple inerwoven narrative is very likely what human SEARCHERS need to help ease themselves into understanding philosophical and theoretical materials which are necessary to explain what has happened and is happening in "religion." I am pleased my old friend emailed us about the publication of CHRISTIAN DOGMA and doubly happy to have read it -- sped through it, as it were! This is a proper book for discussion of new and old ideas. Sharing both its chanllenges and conclusions with others just might call important attention to some of the scary ideas spouted to the world by deeply and wildly conservative religious groups and individuals who have so much influence on our lives, most especially outside the walls of their churches. For any reader with an open and curious mind, I strongly recommend CHRISTIAN DOGMA. --Sarah Kolb Robinson
