Summary: Biblically Sound - no Psychology!
Review: "What an eye-opener. Dr. Almy does a great job of illustrating the Biblical Counseling position. His comparison of Christian Counseling with Biblical Counseling in the first section alone is worth buying the book, even if your not into the history behind it. The rest of the book is just that - history of how psychology has become so pervasive in the church. Every pastor and lay person should read this book and begin now to weed the psychological influences out of the church! Along with this book, I would highly recommend "Competent to Counsel", "How to Help People Change", "Psychobabble", and "Why Christians Can't Trust Psychology".

Summary: Written by one of Psychiatry's own
Review: Dr. Gary Almy is not only a Christian, but he has been in the psychiatry profession for many years. This is why this book is so valuable -- he's someone who has seen psychiatry from the inside. Because Psychiatry didn't have the answer for him and his wife (their story is given in another book of theirs, "Addicted to Recovery" which I also highly recommend), in despair they both sought answers outside of Psychiatry, in the form of Christianity. Once they had become Christians, they soon saw how Psychiatry and Christianity are NOT compatible.

This book is a serious read, geared for the intellectual who needs reasons why they shouldn't trust Psychiatry. Almy shows specifically, point by point, how this humanistic teaching doesn't match up to Biblical Christianity.

Invaluable information! If you are going to do real BIBLICAL counseling, this is a MUST READ.

Summary: Psychology is not Biblically based
Review: I found this book to be an excellent resource for Bible believing counselors who are called on to care for the souls of their clients. This book contrasts Freudian psychology with the tenets of Scripture and finds them diametrically opposed. Scholarly work; see also Our Sufficiency in Christ by Dr. John A. MacArthur.

Summary: A great Christian book.
Review: I have been waiting for a Christian book like this all my Christian counseling life. I respect and admire the courage of Dr. Almay to speak his spirit and write such a thoughful, insightful book. As a Christian counselor with a Ph.d working in the field of Christian counseling. I always wondered how christian counselors could cross and blurr the line of psychological and biblical counseling. If you want to where the line is and how not to cross it, I recommend to you this book. I will not only recommend it to all Christian counselors, I will recommed it to all Christians. Job well done Dr. Almay and God bless you.

Summary: Christians beware
Review: I teach Biblical Counseling at a Seminary in California. After reading this text, I have made it my lead textbook. As Christians we have the Great Counselor to help us. If there is no repentance there will be no change. Dr. Almy helps to show this and the book is a must read for all who are going into Biblical-Christain Counseling.
