Rating: Summary: English in Action produces quick communication! Review: We used an earlier version of this manual in Siberia. I personally used it to lead two separate ESL classes weekly. I had never taught an ESL class prior to this experience.Students learned through interaction with the teacher and each other. Some of the students spoke a little English, but the majority did not. This method of modeling while saying the word/s, then having the student repeat the process with the teacher, and then alone, enabled every student learn quickly. This curriculum provides a placement test and has handouts and helps that are usable for copying: alphabet, numbers, days of the week, calendar, etc. It includes a prop list that proved to be very helpful. Also, there are lesson plans, teaching notes and much more. The lessons begin with the story of Adam and Eve and ends with the Empty Tomb. At the end of our classes I wanted to test how well they understood the concepts, etc. The students (from 12 to 60+ years) were able to deduce and communicate in English what was meant by a Johnny Hart (wordless) cartoon that depicted a couple in white garments who had gotten stains (red) on their clothing. On the hill in the background were three crosses. When the woman took the soiled garment to the river below to wash it, the water turned red, but when she emerged from the water the garment was white. This was NOT PART OF THE REGULAR CURRICULUM, but of my own design. * An excellent tool for teaching valuable, usable, and memorable English. * Provides a great foundation for more advanced English learning. * Enjoyable for both teacher and student! I hope you enjoy using it as much as I did.
