Rating: Summary: living prayer Review: Deborah Douglas' collection of essays and poems offers a rich variety of perspectives on living a life of prayer--a life that is marked by deepening awareness of God's presence and increasing capacity to respond in love. With wit, good humor, insight and intelligence, the author makes the life of prayer real and engaging. I laughed out loud several times, and I wrote many of her lines in my journal. This is a book to savor, to learn from, to delight in, to treasure.Douglas' ability to express the mystery of prayer as well as its mundane aspects, and to do so in lucidly beautiful prose, makes this book well worth having. The essays also lend themselves both to adult education and to classes in spirituality.
Rating: Summary: In love with The Praying Life Review: Through vivid metaphors, Deborah Smith Douglas shows us the mystical hidden within the mundane and makes God powerfully real in our everyday lives. Her carefully constructed essays and poems, each based on a tangible theme, are a pleasure to read and even more enjoyable to ponder as I go about my daily activities. Douglas' writing is imaginative and literate, and manages to be both down to earth and intellectually stimulating. Her persuasive arguments are reinforced and made timeless with references from literary soul mates of the recent and ancient past. I will want to read this book again and again and share it with friends and spiritual soul mates of my own. The Praying Life: Seeking God in All Things is a treasure.
