Rating: Summary: Thorough Christological Exegesis Throughout! Review: This is just a superb addition to the growing Commentary Series from CPH. Being the first OT commentary, the excitement for this reviewer is to explore an OT book which admittedly so has not been given much attention by me to this point. This shall all change though with this commentary's appearance to guide me on this exciting journey. Mitchell is a competent and thorough exegete, and provides not only an unbelievable complete historical overview of The Song's interpretative past, but further adds his own researched and careful analysis verse by verse. As with the other series' commentaries, it begins with his own interpretation, followed by extensive textual notes, and then commentary. What impresses one is not only the length and depth of this massive work, but the richness therein contained on such exciting and vital topics to the Body of Christ as marriage, and its major thrust as the very relationship between Christ and His Bride, the holy catholic church. This becomes Mitchell's major task and theme, and this reviewer is excited to begin the journey and discover its incarantional and sacramental treasures. Certainly this volume has the potential to become a major resource for this neglected but vital Scriptural book.
