Summary: This is a very sad book. . .
Review: . . .along with being a very funny book. A sense of humor is desperately necessary in life, and Frank Foglio certainly shows that he is capable in that area.

BUT the story he relates with such humor is a sad one. It is the story of an Italian-American family, not at all well-versed in their Catholic faith, who are essentially hoodwinked by the "witness" of another Italian-American family who were equally not at all well-versed in either the faith they rejected, or the Pentecostalism they accepted. Toss in an unhealthy dose of bad theology (for example, rejection of Mary as "theotokos" -- a doctrine accepted not only by Catholics, but Orthodox and most Protestants alike) and you've got a recipie for disaster.

From a violently abusive father, to a "heavenly hand" which slaps cigars out of people's mouths, to the "miracle" of being able to drive a car for 17 miles with the fuel gauge on "E", this book relates how, one at a time, an entire family lost their spiritual moorings for something far more shallow.

This points to several needs:

1) Better catechesis in the Catholic Church, so people aren't fooled.

2) Better theological understanding among Pentecostals, so that open and blatant heresy is avoided.

3) Better understanding between the two theological groups so that this sort of thing does not occur and does not NEED to occur.

As a member of the Society for Pentecostal Studies, an academic group committed to legitimate theological growth and discussion between Pentecostals and members of other Christian bodies, this book should be held up as a classic example of what ALL Christians should want to avoid.

Again, a very sad tale. One can only hope that the Foglio family comes to the realization of what they left, and what they entered.

Summary: God as He really is
Review: For those that think this book is "sad", I can only say "How sad for you"

This is a POWERFUL book - filled with the truths of the Bible and how God (Jesus Christ) wants to relate to us in everyday life. To reject the truths of God in this book is to reject the joy and hapiness and peace that God brings.

Frank Foglio humorously tells us how his family escaped the bondage of religious traditionalism and found a true relationship with God. One that frees us to live an overcoming life.

Summary: VERY INSPIRATIONAL!!!
Review: I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BOOK. ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES. I STARTED READING THIS WHEN I WAS 10 OR 12 YR OLD. IM NOW 33. I READ THIS BOOK EVERY YEAR. I NOW READ IT TO MY CHILDREN. IT IS ENCOURAGING TO READ HOW POWERFUL FAITH IS. LIKE WHEN MRS FOGLIO'S BIBLE COULDNT BE BURNED. I LOVED THIS WOMAN AND SHE HAS INSPIRED ME IN MANY WAYS TO SERVE THE LORD. READING ABOUT HER AND HAVING A GRANDMOTHER THAT WAS RIGHTOUS ARE THE MAIN REASONS I FOLLOW THE LORD TODAY. THIS BOOK IS GREAT!!! IT WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH, CRY, AND RAH RAH RAH!!! I CANT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT IT. MY CHILDREN (14,12,6,&6.) ALSO LOVE IT!!! NOW MY HUSBAND IS READING IT FOR THE FIRST TIME AND CANT PUT IT DOWN. Summary: Fantastic
Review: My sister loaned me her book. It was a wonderful experience to "witness" such miracles and to see how her long private prayers gave her the opportunity to do a "hey God" prayer whenever needed :-) Such faith! It was such an admirable and life changing book.
An added "kudo" for me was that I actually know some of the people in his book! What a surprise!
Fantastic book! I'm trying to buy up a bunch so I can share them with others.
Aloha,

Summary: WHAT A FAITH BUILDER!!
Review: Of all the books I have read throughout my life, I have to say in all honesty that HEY GOD is the one I can remember. If I ever begin to doubt any part of my Christian walk, I always find myself thinking of Mama. What an awesome testimony of Gods love. Every new Christian needs to read this book. And every old Christian needs to read this book. It is definetly annointed of God. Maybe if we all had some of Mamas faith we could move the mountains!!

I just donated 10 copies of HEY GOD to a local youth group. I pray they receive the mulltiple blessings that I did from its pages.

Thank you Frank for loving us enough to share your family.

God Bless
Sherry

Summary: Hey God! Thank you God!
Review: Thank you God for inspiring Frank to write about his Mamma and others. Not only is this book very inspirational to me, it is also very historical to me! I grew up in Burgettstown and my great-grandparents were Frank Folglio godparents! Yes, the godfather who disowned Frank that one day on the street was my great-grandfather. I was told my great-grandmother was instrumental with Mamma Foglio in starting the churches but sadly I never knew the whole story until I read his book, which my Father gave to me this Christmas. (But, just for the record it was "Mamma Bonis" Bible that wouldn't burn, not "Mamma Foglio"!) My father said had it not been for his grand-parents influence (my great grandparents & Frank's godparents) he might not have ended up in church. So even though the story starts "sad" as one reviewer said, it ends "happy" very happy. Read it for the bold faith testimony that inspires us all to go with blind faith to do what God has asked us too. Take me for instance - I almost didn't write this review! Thank God he told me to.
