Rating: Summary: Fine, Easy-To-Follow Review of Luther's Theology Review: This is a fine book that presents an overview of Martin Luther's theology in six parts: 1) Luther's life; 2) the Reformation understanding of the Word of God; 3)justification by faith; 4) theology of the cross; 5) the church; and 6) life in this world. This is a very readable book that will delight the reader. It will be of interest to new Lutherans, and nonLutherans who'd like an overview of Luther's theology. You'll find out how "radical" and conservative Luther's theology is and you'll discover that Luther's theology is more needed than ever! Rev. Monge does a wonderful job of explaining Lutheran distinctives, such as 1) the distinction between the Law and the Gospel, a very important distinction that many nonLutheran Christians haven't been exposed to or don't understand 2) justification -- as one of the subtitles states, "Justification...a doctrine that never made it to America"(!). 3) the theology of the cross. 4) Living under the cross 5) good works in Lutheran theology. This book is a real gem -- profound ideas, yet easy to follow.
