Learn about Jesus from the Bible! Don't learn about Jesus from an 18th Century mystic!!!
Rating: Summary: Yes, it's Apocryphal but... Review: Please don't get fooled by some of the "reviews" of this book you see here. To begin with their concept of "solo sciptura" is inherently flawed. The scriptures are selected texts which were deemed by the Catholic Church to be divine. Yes the same church that is condemed by the very people shaking their "solo sciptura" at you. The bible has been translated, re-written compliled..etc first by The Church and then by others for 2000 years. The Chruch itself rejects "solo scriptura" (meaning faith by scripture alone) acknowleging the 4 Gospels as being devine writings, however the traditions that are practiced in all churches, are also considered a part of the faith. That having been said, yes these books are apocrphal, meaning outside the scriptures. Much of Christian tradition is based on apocrypha. If seeing the Passion deepend your faith, then so will the Books by Catherine Emmerich. The author notes that "only the Gospel is Gospel." However if a clearer picutre of the events in the bible as told by someone who appears to have had visions of the events can help you envision them for yourself what is the sin there. Too call this a "devils" trick is both stupid and self serving. IF the movie the Passion was a "devils" trick because much of the story is outside the words of the bible, then this book is too, because it's far more touching than the movie. If you don't think so, then these books are for you. If do think so, then fine..stay away from Catherine, St. Bridget, and Mary Agreba, and others that, IMO were given divine gifts in order for the rest of us to be helped to strengten our faith. The books by Catherine are facinating and well written. Desciptions such as those in the Garden are incredible and infitely more touching than the movie. So much is missed in the movie that the book is must reading before, during, or after seeing it. Family trees are included that help to explain much of the confusion in the Bible, such as Joesph's lineage from David, Job, Abraham, St.Anne and more. Nothing you read in the Bible is not in here, but so much of what you read is not in the Bible and supports completely what is in there. Some of it is backed up by other Apocrypha, some contradicts it. I am sure that anyone that truly is interested in their Christian faith, and in their true love and undestanding of the Bible will be deeply touched. Read it.

Rating: Summary: Great example of the need for Sola Scriptura. Review: Really!!! How can we marvel when the world calls us credulous nerds? Can't anyone in the Catholic Church see through this purile drivel? The words of Paul seem so apt here, that having "turned their ears away from the truth they are turned unto fables". Once you get onto the slippery slope of abandoning the Word of God as one's sole source and measure of truth then anything goes, it seems. Please, get back to the Word. Return to the majesty and solemnity of the Scriptures, not this frivolous collection of fables. Test all things by the Bible. This falls flat on its face at the very outset. Where Adam's bones were buried??? There would have been a ton or two of deposits from the Flood of Noah on top of them to start with!!!!!Releasing all the souls from purgatory??? Well I guess if you have already fallen for that human invention, then at least you're being consistent! But to call this proof of our faith? Next thing you'll be doing is telling me of wonderful revelations by some spiritualist medium and raving about them at this rate. And why not? Once you've got no objective standard for truth then you'll fall for any old thing that comes along masquerading as revelation. The apostles would have been horrified at this--but maybe they would have recognised it as "Another Gospel", as the devil posing as an Angel of light, to deceive the unwary and the Scripturally illiterate. Flee this as the poison it is and return to the solid ground of the Word. Or get sucked deeper into the deception that characterises this age of apostasy.

Rating: Summary: Outstanding! Review: This may be, one of the most outstanding books I've ever read. The visions of a Venerable noun, a woman which life was full of suffering and misunderstanding, she has the stigmata and suffered great pains. Some kind of sickness put her on bed for many years; in the last part of her life, and for several months, she was only fed with the Holy Communion, as she was unable to receive any other kind of food. Nevertheless, she wrote one of the most extraordinary revelations, a book that complements the Holy Gospel, and bring us near Jesus, the Apostles, the Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, etc. This great work is a must for Catholics and Christians a like, that may want to extend their knowledge of the times of Christ and His life, the Church, the Holy Mass, Heaven and hell and the times of old Palestine. Also the creation of the world is depicted, the Angels, etc. Her Book the "The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ", was the inspiration for Mel Gibson's movie "The Passion of the Christ".
