Rating: Summary: A great resource! Review: I was given this copy while I was in high school. I thought it was a truly valuable resource then. Since then I have completed college, seminary and have served more than ten years in the pastoral ministry. I have many books on hermeneutics now. This book is my favorite of them all. While it is not an absolutely complete treatment of the topic it is quite thorough. It is more than an introduction to be sure. The scripture index in the book made it a ready reference to assist with understanding any difficult passage. This index alone is 17 pages long. The book deals with each genre of literature found in the Bible, the languages of the original texts, apparent contradictions between scripture and science as well as an excellent history of the interpretation of scripture. I think this last part is needed to give us a clearer perspective as we approach the sacred writings. This history also offers us a dose of humility as we realize Christians of years not yet come will likely scratch their heads to figure out how we arrived at some of our interpretations. This better is better than three seminary text books on the subject combined, yet any layman can harvest the wealth of information contained therein.
