Summary: Great book!
Review: A great book. One of Lawana Blackwell's best. It's a very interesting and good love story. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Not very good
Review: I purchased this book because I had really, really enjoyed her Gresham Chronicles. I was quite disappointed.

This book is SO predictable, the characters are shallow and true to type, and the 'good' people are so nice it's sickening. I like good characters-but I have no desire to read a book about nice, holy goodie goodies.

The plot: Connie and Gerald are partners in conning wealthy men out of some of their money. The try to trick Adam Burke-a reclusive, scarred, rich man. Rachel is their maid whom they have bullied and tricked into obedience through fear. She and Adam-no surprise ;) -fall in love. Gerald gets progressively horrible as the book goes on and problems ensue.

Lawana Blackwell's Gresham Chronicles are wonderful! She just keeps getting better. I will definitely have to but her newest book. So buy them, not this shallow, predictable, boring book.

Summary: What do I think of this book? Grrrrreat!!
Review: This book is a lovely story about a servant girl Rachel Jones who is unwillingly aiding her employers extort money and blackmail unsuspecting men. Her employers' next target is Adam Burke a man scarred by the Crimean War on his face and also his heart. Will Adam prove a match for Rachel's employers' schemes? Will Rachel ever escape the life she has been living for 6 years? And will she escape the unwanted advances of her employer, Gerald Moore? Will Gerald Moore face up to his crimes? Will Corrine Hammond change her life? So many questions that can only be answered by reading this book. Great story about love, and intrigue in Victorian London!
