Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the finest on the Pastoral Epistles
Review: Here is the work of a lifetime of research by Dr. William Mounce. The detail Mounce provides on the Pastorals is immense. In the massive introduction, Mounce makes the most convincing argument to date for Pauline authorship. The exegesis is lucid and convincing. The textual information is exhaustive and extremely helpful. His closing explanations of each section are carefully structured for maximum comprehension of the context. Thankfully, Dr. Mounce has translated the lion's share of Greek, which makes it accessible to those who have little knowledge of Greek. Use it with his NIV English-Greek New Testament and you will study these epistles in a way you only dreamed of before! Greek students will treasure this work! A well rounded commentary library should include this work along with the ICC work by I. Howard Marshall, the NIGTC work by George Knight, and the NIBC work by Gordon Fee.

Summary: Word Biblical Commentary: Pastoral Epistles
Review: I had heard that this book was extremely good, and now that I have actually gotten to read some of it, I must agree wholeheartedly! Not only does Mounce go into incredible detail in discussing the Greek of the Pastoral Epistles, he shows the reader the various viewpoints regarding controversial passages as well as listing the strengths and weaknesses of each. One can tell that his research is exhaustive and accurate. Although the sheer amount of information can be daunting (I won't be able to read if cover to cover for quite a while), this book can be a great asset to a Bible student, whether he is writing a paper or simply studying the Word of God.
