Review: This book contains two spiritual essays on the relationship between Jesus and Mary and its relevance to a Catholic, written in Nouwen's characteristic spiritual, yet simple, style. If you are a Catholic who has grown up within the culture of Mary, this book will be a helpful little guide that helps to understand your faith in Mary in a new light. Nouuwen touches on a fundamental longing within each human being to get in touch with one's "inner child", and Mary's divine maternity is the bond that assists this process. However, if you are a Catholic or Christian who is trying to understand the relationship between Jesus and Mary and wondering why we should have a relationship with Mary at all, then Nouwen's book is not helpful. Unlike Nouwen's other books, this does not delve in to the issue at hand and examine the many aspects that affect believers.
