Summary: A solid choice with a few minor quibbles
Review: After you decide which Bible translation is for you, selecting a Bible becomes a matter of deciding what features are important to you. I wanted a wide-margin Bible so I could take copious notes. This Bible is a solid choice.

The positives:

--It is less expensive than its otherwise identical leatherbound counterpart.

--You can easily write in this Bible when it sits in your lap, such as while you're in a group Bible study or while you sit in your easy chair, because the cover is, well, hard. (When a leatherbound Bible is in your lap, the pages curve with your leg, making it hard to write legibly.)

--The paper feels substantial; you can turn pages easily.

The (minor) disappointments:

--This Bible's paper is *not quite* hardy enough for you to write with many liquid-ink pens. The ink almost bleeds through. Ballpoint ink works best, and I suspect that good-quality fine-point rollerball pens might work well, too.

--The printing, although not bad, could be crisper.

--The chosen typeface is fairly narrow, which might hinder legibility for some.

--The 1-inch margin runs along only three edges of the text; the top margin is near the top of the paper. This quibble is fairly minor, but I have already run into an instance where I would have appreciated the extra space for notes.

Summary: A GREAT Study Bible!
Review: I disagree with the reviews stating that this is not a good study Bible. The "Study Bibles" of today are packed with commentaries, application, notes, charts, helps, etc, etc. While these may shed some light on the Scriptures, you are limited to the findings of other Bible scholars, and what the Spirit may have revealed to them. There is nothing necessarily wrong with that if their statements are scripturally sound, but there is nothing like having the Holy Spirit speak directly to you through His Word alone. Sit down with this Bible, and make all the notes you want in it-- there's plenty of room! Compare Scripture with Scripture and not with commentaries. Have a concordance on hand and you're ready for a REAL first hand study of the Bible.

As far as the construction of the book itself... The first thing I noticed was the weak binding. I am easily annoyed by the tendency of a weak binding to crack, and "favor" opening to certain pages. (A solution to this is to spread a thick layer of Weldwood contact cement on some thick paper or cardboard, and carefully slide it under the cover onto the binding. Don't open it for at least a week. Eventually the binding will be quite solid!). It's not very "fashionable" -- no genuine English calfskin here. It's a big black hardcover tome with a gold "HOLY BIBLE" on the front, which may be "old school" for some. I keep it at home and take a compact NKJV with me everywhere else.

The paper is a little thicker than regular Bible paper, and it really doesn't bleed, even with a regular hilighter. I mostly use an 0.5mm pencil, or a Micron 005 (0.2mm) super fine pen.

All that said, the only REAL advantage this Bible has is the wide margins, of which there aren't many in print. I recommend this Bible over any modern Study Bible available today.

Summary: The best!
Review: I have purchased several of these. The original I have worn out. I have a second that I am starting to use and have already added thousands of notes to the margins. I have purchased several for my wife and friends. I love the space for adding notes and references. I turned my Bible into a study Bible with my own study instead of taking someone elses word for it. YOu will love it too.

Summary: Fantastic
Review: I have purchased three of these Bibles. The first one is almost worn out. I purchased two additional Bibles so that I could always have this Bible available to me. I love it that much. The font is comfortable. The references are very helpful. The margins are wide. The binding is good. The leather is nice. I don't ever want to be without it.

Summary: Author: God
Review: It was on my 18th birthday that I received this Bible from my parents. This translation is very accurate - it does not read like a story book or a novel. I am very pleased with it and I have been reading it since. If you have never read the Bible, then you should and this particular one will not bring disappointment.

Summary: Great Daily Reader or Devotional Bible
Review: It's been my experince that a perfect study Bible is impossible to find. The Wide Margin New King James Bible is NOT a good study Bible, but a GREAT daily reader or for daily devotions. The margin size screams for notes to be written, allowing over a inch of writing space surrounding the text. The alternative renderings and literal translation notes are very helpful - placed in a center column reference section. The translation is easy to understand and read, written at a level that makes it a good childrens' Bible as well.

The lack of helps, book and chapter introductions, is what makes this Bible such a great daily reader or for devotions. Nothing is there to distract you from your time with the Lord in His Word.

If you are looking for a Study Bible, this isn't it. If you are looking for a Bible to write notes, underline, highlight, or use another marking sytem (it doesn't use really thin pages so there won't be any problem with highlighter marker bleeding through), this Bible may be exactly what you are looking for.

Summary: A Basic Tool for Bible Study!
Review: My Nelson wide margin reference edition provides me with three nice sized margins for notes. The print contrasts well with the white pages for easy reading. The paper is thick and easy to turn. However, most pens will bleed through. I finally found some special Bible pens from Zebra that will almost end this problem. In addition to the center reference, the Bible has a standard concordance, harmony, and map section. In subjecting the Bible to average use, I found the cover leather too thin and showing wear. The corners of the inside cover lining in the front and back are separating and must be glued down. The binding is loose and allows the Bible to open nice and flat for study. Considering the price, this Bible is a real value. A better cover and more attention to the binding would make this Bible great even if it cost a lttle more.

Summary: NKJV a good translation
Review: The NKJV is a good translation of the Bible. It makes certain verses easier to understand than the KJV. A wide margin Bible is handy to make notes in.
The Bible is God's Word, and it is the only source available today of God's word. I feel that the Bible is a book that everyone should read to learn about our Creator and His plan for the earth.
