Summary: An ABSOLUTE MUST READ
Review: I cannot give any book higher regard than I do "Theology for Beginners" by F. Sheed. I felt my spirit tingling with joy as I read this book, and found it as much a page-turner as ANY book, fiction or otherwise, I have ever read.

Mr. Sheed is one of those rare men who has an immense knowledge, yet can explain it in a way that makes it not only a pleasure to read but understandable as well. He brings to light the three most important concepts in life and theology: spirit, infinite and eternal. When reading Mr. Sheeds explanations of these concepts your view of life will likely be irrevocably changed.

If you want to know God, if you think you already know God, if you want to love God, if you already profess to love God, PLEASE read this book. Whatever God-laden yeast you bring to this book it will rise 100 fold into a baker's loaf!

Even if you doubt God exists, or think His existence can't be arrived at logically or by reason, read this book because you have a surprise waiting for you.

Forgive my exhuberance but I LOVE THIS BOOK - you will to. :)

P.S. Also read another book of Mr. Sheed's entitled "Theology and Sanity".

Summary: Beautiful, Profound, and Easy to Read
Review: If you are just starting to study theology, or have tried to study it before and lost interest because of the difficulty of the material, this book is for you. This is, quite simply, the best introduction to Catholic theology available. Mr. Sheed does a superb job of putting some of the most complex concepts into the simplest language. While you will still have to spend a lot of time turning these ideas around in your mind until you begin to understand them, you can be assured that the author's style facilitates this understanding. Even after you have moved on to more complicated tomes, you will find yourself referring back to this book repeatedly.

Summary: A book I treasure
Review: If you are sincere in wanting to learn the truth about the teachings of the Catholic Church, this book is one of the best in giving you the truth in a very easy to understand manner. It takes you below the surface to the real meaning and understanding of what Jesus Christ wanted his followers to understand about Himself and about His Father and the Holy Spirit. I highly recommend it to anyone who is willing to go deeper in understanding the teachings of the Catholic Church, and this is only the beginning.

Summary: READ THIS BOOK
Review: If you want to know God in a more profound way, this is the book to read. Sheed really delivers with his easy-to-understand, explanations about the mysteries of God, the Trinity, Mary and the Catholic faith. There were so many "lightbulbs turned on" in reading this book that I now feel immensely closer to God and more knowledgeable of His plan and His works. This book is invaluable as an introduction to Theology.

I am now reading Sheed's "Theology and Sanity", which is a deeper study of the subjects found in "Theology for Beginners".

"Theology for Beginners" is a MUST READ for anyone who wants to know God better.

Summary: The Perfect Introduction to Catholic Theology
Review: This book is of immeasurable value to anyone who wants to begin learning the essentials of Catholic theology. Mr. Sheed wrote this book in such a way that anyone can understand. As Scott Hahn writes in the introduction, "Frank Sheed never composed an incoherent sentence...he wrote simply, but never simplistically." This book is an invaluable resource. I find myself going back to the pages I highlited when reading more complicated works.

The book is at its best in discussing some of the more complicated issues, such as the soul, the trinity, and grace. I learned a great deal from reading this book, and it gave me the impetus to read more advanced theological works.

I really can't praise this book enough. If you are a Catholic who wants to learn more about your faith, or someone from outside the church who wonders where Catholic practices come from, definitely read this book.

Summary: Not an Introduction To Theology
Review: This book is OK as an introduction to the Cathechism of Catholcism, but not as an introduction to theology. I would be interested in an Introduction to Theology from a Catholic perspective, mind you, but this is not that either. I want to say the author treats you as being stupid, but that wouldn't bother me either - I like Cathocism for Dummies. This thing that bothered me most, was after reading pages and pages of lead up for each subject, and being referred back to reread of other sections, right when you think he's amout to say something, he says something like, great theologians have spent a lot of time thinking about this, and suffice it to say, the conclusions is ... . I can read the Cathechism for that, and skip the preamble.

If what you really want is a summary introduction to the Cathechism with a mild Theological slant, then go ahead and get the book - you'll love it.

Summary: A great beginning guide to theology
Review: This is a great guide to theology for beginners. Be aware that even a beginning guide is going to give you a hum dinger of a headache. I highly recommend this book.
