Rating: Summary: A hard book to review Review: "Let's Roll" by Lisa Beamer is one of the harder book for me to review. While I was reading the book, it was very clear to me that both Todd and Lisa Beamer had much faith, but at times it seemed to me that the point was being driven home to the reader and for some that could be a real turn-off. Another problem that I had with this book was "Yes Todd Beamer did some that was very brave on 9-11-01, but other poeple also did very brave things and you didn't not see their families on TV or after the birth's their children they more than likely didn't get letter from the President Bush." Lisa Beamer never explaimed why she felt that Todd and herself were being single out for so much attention when they were many heroes that day.
Rating: Summary: I feel for her but who knows what really happened. Review: After reading the book I was left with a feeling of speculation.
No one knows what happened on the plane which took 44 people to
their deaths.I had a sense of sadness when she kept bringing
up "God's Will" Sometmes human beings make choices wether
positive or negative which unfortunatley determine other's
destiny. We also don't know how many other passengers were involved in this or if the hijackers simply gave up and had a
fight and the plane crashed.Ok,I have to say I feel there was
much Christian dogma presented in the book.I can understand how Lisa could find it comforting but at times it comes across as
more of a book of preaching than experience from a great and
horrible loss.I feel for her and the book gave important
general information.
Rating: Summary: Let's Roll! Review: Although I mourned with America on September 11th, I didn't personally know any of the victims. Lisa Beamer changed that for me. After reading the inspiring story of her husband, Todd Beamer, I feel as if I knew him and in his death, lost a friend. Lisa does an outstanding job portraying the characteristics and personality of her husband.
Her story starts off with the initial shock of September 11th and what she was doing when she found out. It then logs the history of their lives and how they met. Both Lisa and Todd had immense faith in God - a faith that keeps Lisa going and a faith that helped her accept and understand Todd's death. As the book moves into the horrifying events on September 11th, it was difficult for me to read. I suddenly felt the pain that so many husbands and wives and children felt that day and still feel today. I was captivated by Todd's bravery on Flight 93, and as Lisa retells his story, you can tell how proud she is of him.
Even if you don't share the same religious beliefs as Lisa Beamer, her story is truly uplifting and captures the sentiments of an entire nation.
Rating: Summary: God gives Hope Review: I can't begin to express all of the feelings I have after reading this book...inspiration, admiration, courage, strength, thanksgiving for my Faith and my Freedom. This is the first book that I have read related to 9-11....I read the other reviews prior to my purchase. For those that were disappointed that this isn't a "nitty-gritty-nothing-but-details" 9-11 story, I'm sorry, but you missed the point. The book moved me to tears because it made 9-11 "real" for me.....I, thank God, didn't know anyone personally who lost his or her life on that Infamous Day. But, now I have a connection....I have a real name, a real person, and a real life....I won't forget. Like Lisa Beamer, I do believe that God has given me Peace and Hope in the face of what happened on 9-11. She doesn't want celebrity status, or articles, interviews or accolades, she simply wants to be a Christian Mother to her children, and share with them the man that their father, Todd Beamer, was every day....I thank Lisa for sharing this story.....a personal, heartfelt glimpse into the life of ordinary people with extraordinary courage!
Rating: Summary: Lets Roll! Review: I have to say that Lisa Beamer represented herself and her husband well, noone could have done so any better than herself. I would recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: A book to be picked wisely! Review: I read LET'S ROLL by Lisa Beamer for an English project. We had to pick a theme and my theme happened to be heroes. I knew right away that I wanted to read LET'S ROLL. I knew the story of Todd Beamer and the rest of the crew and passengers aboard flight 93. I wanted to learn more about their heroic acts that saved the lives of many people. I learned a little more about what happened on that day and what happened on flight 93. As I was reading the beginning of the book it seemed to drag on about the families it was a little confusing for me. It took a while for it to get more interesting. The information about the plain crash was good I had never heard what really happened on flight 93 until I read LET'S ROLL. I believe that LET'S ROLL is a very good book. The book did have a lot about religion in it. I do not mind the religion aspect of the book like a lot of people did. For me it was interesting to hear a testimony of a woman who had lost her husband and how she got through it. I my self am of the same religion as the Beamers so it was interesting to hear her story about how God was in their life. I believe the book had a purpose and was very good about telling me a little of what went on that horrible day of September 11, 2001. It gives you a lot of information about her life and the background of both their families, which is not so interesting, and there were only a few chapters in the middle that kept my attention while I was reading. If you are really into your religion and knowing a little more about the beamer's life then this is the book for you. It is not the book for you if you want to learn more about the events on September 11th. I for one was not so head over heals for the book but I thought it was Good. I just believe that i built it up so much as a great book that when i read it i just got board because like i said most of it is on their families. But I do recommend that if you have not heard the Beamers story and would like to hear it this is the book. I do have to give Lisa credit she is an amasing woman for being able to do such amazing things after such a horrible tragedy.
Rating: Summary: American Heroes for the 21st Century Review: In "Let's Roll" Lisa Beamer limns her husband whom the world only met through his heroic death. There's always a risk in learning the details of an icon's life. How many celebrity autobiographies have left readers thinking "what an amoral jerk!"? In the case of Todd Beamer, his countless admirers will not be disappointed. Indeed he was truly the kind and selfless Christian husband and father whose unflinching answer to his unanticipated call to duty catapulted him into posthumous fame. That celebrated act was just the final and most ballyhooed of a too-short, inspiring life. Throughout the book, Lisa's prose capitalizes upon a prescient poignancy. Nearly every chapter ends with a line that seems to augur Todd's eventual martyrdom. After a chapter discussing Todd's career path, his widow mentions that although he didn't feel called to ministry he was determined to fulfill his Christian obligations. As she narrates, "he could serve God in business as well and maybe even make more of an impact on the world...His close friends and family members didn't understand all that Todd meant at the time; one day they would." Ending a chapter that describes his years before they met, she justifiably boasted that "Todd Beamer always came through in a clutch." Relating his university years at Wheaton Christian College, she analyzes that "Wheaton was a great place for Todd Beamer to be for there he learned many lessons that would impact the rest of his life and an entire nation." Learning of their separate growing up family lives, it's fitting that a man who has come to embody patriotism for the 21st century and his wife both came from families were national pride had never gone out of style. Lisa proudly declares of her formative years, "independence, patriotism, freedom, and the American way of life were not trite cliches tossed around lightly in our family. They were highly treasured values." In a demonstration of fate's cruelty Todd's father was at an unrelated business meeting in San Francisco on September 11. Due to the indefinite grounding of all flights he and a friend rented a car and drove all the way across America to get back home. After his return, he remarked with spontaneous eloquence, "as we crossed the country, I had a chance to see again just how vast and beautiful our nation is and how much our freedom and way of life are worth fighting for." Perhaps the ultimate irony of the story is the stark contrast between Todd Beamer (along with Jeremy Glick and many of the other Flight 93 heroes) and their murderous thugs. One side represented a dedication to family, country, and fidelity. The other side saw debauchery--even in the next life where a purported orgy was their lusted reward--as the ultimate goal. As politically incorrect as it may be to say, the fact that one viewpoint was held by the Christians and the other by the Muslims is likely not coincidental. Some may experience tinges of guilt at the genuine satisfaction felt, but all readers will derive some sense of justice in learning that the brave rebels poured boiling water over the hijackers as they attempted to reclaim the plane. The scalding liquid must have caused the murderers unbearable pain in their final moments and provided a minor preview of the heat where they were going. Lisa Beamer is right to share her husband's noble sacrifice with the other brave insurrectionists on board the doomed flight. She accurately declaims "the valiant heroes aboard Flight 93 fought the first battle in what President Bush declared as a war against terrorism...and won."
Rating: Summary: An Amazing Story of Courage and Faith! Review: Let's Roll is an incredible story about Lisa Beamer and her family. Before writing my review, I read over some others. Not only was I horrified that people could write such things about a woman with three kids in need, but I was almost brought to tears thinking that people could only write those things because they were offended by Lisa Beamer's immense amount of faith in the onr true and living God! Even if she did write the book to get money, can you blame her? She is now a single mother who is needing to support three children. If it was money she was going for...why would she add such passionate input about her faith in the Lord? All she wanted was for people to know about a true hero, for people to be able to more information on a very important event in our country, and for people to know that you can keep faith and hope in a time of need. Lisa Beamer was an inspiration to me and many others that I have shared the book with. I couldn't believe my eyes when I read such horrible things about this heroic story! Look again people! Pull your heads out of your butts and realize that there is more to life than bringing the people down that have miraculously found a reason to live another day after their tragedy. I think I've said all that needs to be said...
Rating: Summary: Let's Roll! Review: Let's Roll!
The book titled "Let's Roll" written by Lisa Beamer is a magnificent book that will keep your interest throughout the entire novel. Lisa does a wonderful job in retelling the story of the horrible attacks of September 11th, and the many hardships that she continues to face after the tragedy. Lisa not only talks about the loss of her husband aboard Flight 93, but about what really happened aboard that flight on September 11th. She also talks about their marriage before and after the attacks. Even though she is dealing with the pain encountered when loosing a loved one, she never looses hope, and her strength inspires many. She was the wife of a very courageous man who America considers today a hero. Lisa Beamer, wife of Todd Beamer and mother of three, had never thought her life would be what it is today. Todd and Lisa had the ideal marriage; they seemed so perfect in each other's eyes. They made wonderful parents together. At the time, they had two children and one on the way, which they both were very excited about. They were both wonderful people who's faith in God brought them far in life. Todd was a businessman who worked for a company called Oracle. He was always in the air attending many business meetings. He was scheduled to attend a meeting in San Francisco on September 11th. He was scheduled to fly out that morning aboard Flight 93 and land in San Francisco, however the outcome wasn't as planned. Lisa tells about the phone call Todd made to an operator informing her about what was happening aboard the flight and assuring telling her about the attack he and other passengers planned to make on the terrorist. He knew he wasn't going to make it out alive but that saving other lives meant the most. The rushing of the terrorist by himself and other passengers followed his last words of "Let's Roll". These words will never be forgotten! Todd and the other passengers acted out of courage and saved many Americans lives today. The terrorist intended on flying the plane into our nations capitol, instead the attack planned by our heroic passengers caused the plane to crash into an open field in Pennsylvania. Lisa Beamer is coping with the everyday responsibilities of now a single mother. She uses her trust in God to get her through the shortcomings of life and realizing that she can get through this. Some of her most difficult times following the death of Todd was giving birth to their third child alone, and telling her children that daddy is gone. She truly feels that God gave her strength in even her most difficult situations, and gave her the words to say to explain daddy's death to their children. She continues to have hope in life and her strength will get her far. This book allowed me to discover what really happened aboard Flight 93 on September 11th. I also have a different outlook on life now knowing that our lives can change forever in a split second. I have a large amount of respect for the heroes aboard that flight. I also have a lot of respect for Lisa Beamer. She is handling her loss very well. Her strength and hope will always inspire me!
Rating: Summary: Life after 9-11 Review: Let's Roll's author, Lisa Beamer, who was the wife of Todd Beamer, who died in the terrorist attacks September 11 believes that "all things work for good for those who love the Lord." In every situation she and her family and friends went through, they remained confident of this fact.
Lisa did a great job describing each of these people that to us there were not just people who were affected in 9-11; they were our friends. We could clearly understand why they are loved. Not only do I feel bad for Todd's family and friends, but now, I miss Todd too.
To me it was amazing how well written her story was. This was her first book but while reading it, you would think she has more books to her name. Also amazing is the fact that she could sort out all her feelings about her husband's death and write it so clearly for all to understand.
I cannot say enough good things about this book. It is wonderful and is one of those books that is hard to put down. I highly recommend it for all to read.
