Summary: A Clarification
Review: "The Inklings" is a charming coming of age story set in Oxford in the early 1960's. It concerns a young lady who is an American student spending a year abroad studying at Oxford. There are references to C S Lewis, the great Christian writer, and thoughtful remarks about his work. It is also a very sweet love story, in which values and virtue matter.
The point of clarification that I would like to make is that this is a recent reprint of the original novel (originally published a few years ago) and--importantly--a sequel is also part of this printing. Hence you get two novels.

Summary: Wonderful reading!!
Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. I read it within a day, once I started reading I did not want to put it down.
The book is set in Oxford, England, I am self was able to visit England about a year and a half ago and I believe this even made the book more enjoyable.
I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the The Oxford Chronicles by Melanie.

Summary: A great read, even for a kiwi bloke!
Review: I wasn't sure what I was going to get when I started reading Inklings. Romance is not exactly my thing, I'm more the fantasic creatures and loud explosion type of person.

Well, I've just finished it, and it surprised me. Not just for it being a great read that I found hard to put down, but that I got so involved in the story, and identified so strongly with the characters. By the end of the book, I really identified with all the characters except one - but he's the villan, so that's OK.

What surprised me most was that a good kiwi bloke such as myself, identified so strongly with Kate. I felt her joy and her pain keenly, and I really felt I got inside her head and feelings.

The characters are very believable and the situations real - something that is often missing from Christian fiction. That not only makes it a good novel, but potentially great for teens - both a positive view of Christianity, but also as a cautionary tale for those beginning to get involved with romantic relationship.

Melanie Jeschke has done a fine job on her first novel, and it pleases me greatly that this is part one of a series, I really can't wait for the next book!

Summary: A MUST READ
Review: If you are a history buff, CS Lewis fan, interested in visiting England, a teenager, a parent of a teenager, or just want to curl up with a good book, than you should read this book. I enjoy reading historical novels because I get both a good story as well as real history. I really believe this book should be a requirement of all teenagers approaching the dating age. It gives them a good perspective and guidelines of how a serious relationship should be handled, and although it may seem a bit idealistic, it's definitely not impossible. I ANXIOUSLY await the sequel. I do hope it's out SOON!

Summary: Vision
Review: In a day where the only pattern for living seems to emerge from
TV, movies, and current fiction, a fresh new vision comes forth in
Melanie Morey Jeschke's first novel, INKLINGS. The story centers around Kate Hughes, an American student from William and Mary spending her junior year abroad studying at Oxford. Tension builds as she is wooed by two very different young men. The author faithfully portrays the struggles of every woman's heart,
and in this, Mrs. Jeschke transcends national boundaries, and speaks to women worldwide. Readers, this little novel will signal a change in the course of your lives!

Summary: An Excellent Christian Romance Set in C S Lewis's Oxford
Review: Inklings is a delightful first novel set in the Oxford of the early 1960s and focused on the courtship of an Oxford don who studied under C S Lewis, the great Christian literary critic and apologist, and his American acquaintance who's come to Oxford to study great literature. This effort evokes the charm and mystery of Oxford and its beautiful landscapes, as well as depicting the impact of C S Lewis and the other writers, including J R R Tolkien, known as the Inklings, on Oxford literary culture and the lives of those who treasure their works. The series, subtitled, The Oxford Chronicles, promises to be a rich treasure for three kinds of readers: (1) those who enjoy a narrative of chaste courtship; (2) those who love the work, life, and times of C S Lewis, and/or (3) those who would love to remember/encounter Oxford, "the city of gleaming spires." I heartily recommend this work to all three groups; I can't wait for the next two in the series.

Summary: A compelling Christian romance
Review: What a wonderful first novel that this talented author has written! I found it to be a quick, yet delightful read! Of high interest to me was life in Oxford and British traditions. The Anglo-Oxford/American Glossary that the author included was most helpful. While Christians will relate most fully to some of the beliefs that are set forth, people of all faiths will enjoy and relate to the romantic triangle that the heroine, Kate, finds herself entwined. Christian beliefs and ideals were portrayed through some of the characters, and biblical references were quoted throughout the book. I look forward eagerly to the sequel to Inklings, Book One of The Oxford Chronicles!

Summary: A Romance Novel Worth Reading
Review: While reading Inklings, I was amazed that I actually couldn't put it down. At the end of each chapter, I was compelled to go on. I say this because I don't normally read romance novels. The added historical details of the setting definitely made it more interesting. But I must have liked the heroine too! I think any young lady that is dating or courting age would love to read it. I'm thrilled that it encourages young ladies to keep their hearts and lives pure.
