Summary: Great book from a Great Teacher
Review: I am a student at Multnomah Bible College where Dr. Friesen teaches, and had the privilege of being in his OT: Pentateuch class this morning. He gave us a summary of section 3 of his book, relating to the will of God, and already I have applied his biblically-founded principles in several major decisions of my life that I'd been holding off on. I would VERY MUCH reccomend this book - not only because it is a good book by a good author, but because I have a lot of trust and can see that God has given this man wisdom and understanding.

Summary: Why didn't anyone tell me about this before?
Review: I am only to page 175 of this book and it is already impacting my life. Why didn't anyone tell me before that the idea that God has a specific individual for each person isn't even Biblical? This book has blown me out of the water. This is an excellent book for anyone who has EVER struggled to know and do the will of God.

Summary: This book has helped "free me up" to make Godly decisions
Review: I can remember sweating and begging God to "give me a sign" so I would know His will for my life. I truly wanted to serve Him and please Him with my decisions. I am so freed up now to make Godly decisions with out the the agonizing process of trying to figure out where God is "leading" me next. I am so glad to know and understand the freeedom I have as a believer. Now I am learning more and more how to make Godly decisions. God is soveriegn and has a plan for me, although He may not chose to let me in on the particulars of that plan before hand. I must make Godly decisions.

Summary: Superb Treatment that gives Hope & Freedom
Review: I first read this book almost 15 years ago and it has been a great inspiration to me for that many years. I can't tell you how many times I have recommended it to others who wrestle with this question. I would estimate that it is in my top 10 books that I have ever read. Not because of it's theological power but because it meshes fine biblical exegesis with practical insights for decision making. It gives the reader a genuine sense of freedom and liberty to prayerfully consider life choices without guilt of 2nd guessing or dealing with the haunting question "Am I in the "center" of God's will." He provides sound insights on how one can go through the process of wise decision making within a biblical gridwork. He helps people walk through all of the decisions that one will encounter as it relates to a biblical Christian; career, marriage, giving, just to name a few. If you have ever wrestled with this issue it will be the best $(....) that you could spend! It has been for me!!

Summary: This book will change your life!
Review: I found the viewpoint presented in this book, "the way of wisdom," to be very liberating. Friesen does a great job presenting and critiquing the traditional view of God's will (which many, if not most, Christians hold) and follows it up with a perspective that will change your life, for the better! His practical application section is well-done and highly applicable, though a bit too conservative in the area of ordination (i.e. Friesen believes only men should be ordained). Overall, an excellent book and resource. A must-read for any Christian -- especially for those daring to be challenged about God's individual call in one's life.

Summary: Knowing God's Will for our lives - A Primer
Review: I found this to be seminal book in my life. I had sruggled for years with the concept of understanding how God's will for my life could be understood and applied. This book set out the issues clearly and dealt with my questions in a simple and straight forward fashion. I highly recommend it to everyone who wants to know what God's will is for their life.

Summary: Cured my resentment toward God
Review: I had been taught in church the view that God had a perfect will for me, and it was my responsibility to find out what that was. Since every church I attended taught that, and all my Christian friends believed it, I never questioned it. It seemed so right.

But over time I began to resent God. It seemed that Adam and Eve were the only ones who had freedom of will. If God had a "calling" and a "mate" and a "geographic location" in mind for me, I would be disobedient and miserable outside his will. Who wants second best? I was also peeved because no matter how often I sought his will, he just wasn't talking! Here I'm supposed to follow his will but he won't bother telling me what it is. I began to see God as a despot demanding I live the life HE wants me to live--and yet not bothering to tell me what that life should look like.

After a long discussion with a Christian who didn't believe this view, I pulled this book off my shelf (where it had sat two years) and read it. The biblical references are superb and the logic is flawless. I think I quit two-thirds the way through, because that was really enough.

I now no longer resent God; I don't listen ever so closely to a voice that doesn't speak; I feel freedom to choose my own path; and God is a Father and not a puppeteer. I am very grateful to have found this book.

Summary: Anyone who reads this book will never look at life the same!
Review: I have been a Christian for many years and have always felt like the way the "will of God" is explained is uncertain and mysterious. This book put my anxiety to rest. I now completely understand it and can't keep myself from sharing with EVERYBODY what I've learned. You MUST read this book if you have ever felt the way I did.
