Summary: One of the Best! (with a few glitches)
Review: I enjoyed Dekker's first book, but felt he was pushing a little, still stretching his wings. Boy, this book takes flight and never comes down. Dekker tells a gripping story and peoples it with characters we love or hate. On top of the captivating tale, he manages to weave in a powerful symbol of God's love and sacrifice for His Bride, the Church. Usually, this type of symbolism becomes heavy-handed and overpowers the use of a real plot and believable dialogue. Here, Dekker pulls it all off with masterful ease and entertains us just long enough for us to let our guard down...then he slams his point home. I've read few novels this well-written.

Some minor glitches: one character pulls on Nikes years before they were developed (I grew up in Eugene, OR...I should know). Big deal, right? But it did remind me it was all a story right in the middle of getting hooked. Dekker also loves to say "spiked." As in "his heart spiked." This started to jump out at me after a while. Last complaint...my copy was missing pages 313-344! A printing error, I guess. And right in the middle of the last quarter of the book...aggh. Once I found a complete book, I was greatly relieved.

Don't miss this book. Don't miss this author's writing. And don't miss the point. "When Heaven Weeps" it's because God loves His people and will do whatever it takes to prove that love. Ted Dekker does his best to weave a beautiful and suspenseful tale. I'll have to read this one again.

Summary: Just keeps getting better and better.
Review: I enjoyed Ted Dekkers first book in this series very much. I found it one of those stories you find your self laughing out loud with surprise. It would be a tense moment and then he would throw in a sense of humor you were unprepared for. So I was ready for more of the same with this second book .But the second book made me tremble just like he said it would. He saved the best wine for last. Then he did another trick. The first book got deeper and deeper with meaning as you continue to read the story about Helen.

Summary: Just fell a little short...
Review: I feel awful that everyone around me is giving this book mad reviews and here I am giving it 3 stars. Maybe another book that I read raised the bar for me and nothing seems to come close.

This book made you want to finish it to the end. His writing is lovely and takes you into the story rather than keeping you at a distance. The message I took away was not only that we love one another as God loves us, but that same love ought to equate itself with His love for us. Let's face it - we could never love one another the way Christ did. Maybe because I am speaking from a human standpoint. Should I "die" for someone so that they may "live?" *sigh* As I'm writing this, I'm saying "yes" and "no" at the same time. What I'm trying to get at is that we may only love others through His love for us. Therefore, I do not need to worry or question over my emotions or intentions like Jan did in this novel ("Do I really love Christ?") because I think we will all answer "no" to that question. Reading the whole book with contents of Jan's self-doubt was a bit disturbing and I did not come away from the book a different person.

I recommend in place of this book "Redeeming Love." This book rocks!

Summary: Haunting
Review: I have read all of Ted Dekker's novels and find this one to be the best, although I have enjoyed them all immensely. He has a wonderful way of getting your attention from the first word and not letting go even after you have read the last. This novel challenged me and left me drained. It has been a year since I first read this work and it's theme of God's unconditional love still astounds me. I am an avid reader and have found very few works of fiction that have affected me this profoundly. This is a keeper! You will not be disappointed.

Summary: DO WE TRULY KNOW GOD'S LOVE?
Review: I just finished reading "When Heaven Weeps" and can hardly wait to read another of Ted Dekker's books.
This book was a reality check for me. Facing my past and weaknesses, the thing that seems to hold me back from realizing and receiving the abounding love of the Father. Not only did it touch my heart, but it reached down into my soul and shook my senses. It opened my eyes to the sacrifices one must make if they truly love.
I am thankful to Mr. Dekker, for being open to the Spirit of God's love and writing about it.

Summary: Amazing Book!!
Review: I read 50 or more books each year. Most are "okay," some are "good," a few are "great," and handful are "amazing." "When Heaven Weeps" falls into the "AMAZING!++" category. My frail words can not adequately express how excellent, how brilliant, how spiritual, how emotional, how utterly powerful this book is. I've never read anything like it. The opening section was so suspenseful, so emotionally engaging that I could not sit still as I read it. It hit me so hard that I could not read it all at once. I had to keep putting the book down, catching my breath, and picking it up again.

The story begins with a band of soldiers descending on a child's birthday party in a church yard. The soldiers commit acts of cruelty, but something miraculous happens in the midst of their brutality-- something unlike anything I have ever read. I would tell you, but I don't want to give it away. Also, a great truth about the meaning and purpose of things is revealed in the story.

Okay, listen, you have got to buy this book. I mean it, you've got to buy it right now. Sooner or later, you are probably going to read it because it is an amazing piece of literature that will go down as a classic so get ahead of the crowd and read it now. Seriously!!

Summary: Exciting, Gripping, Hard to put down
Review: I really enjoyed this book. I read constantly -- Christian fiction, the classics, etc., and I found this book to be fantastic! The writing and concept of the plot was amazing. I was thoroughly surprised by the ending.

I enthusiastically recommend reading this book and am planning on reading Heaven's Wager next.

I hope Mr. Dekker will write many more books for our enjoyment.

Summary: Better than a vacation to Florida, no joke
Review: I was really bored when it started raining on my vacation in Florida and my friend let me borrow her book while she took a nap. I was not particularly thrilled but I opened it and I couldn't put it down!!!! I loved it and I wouldn't let her have it back and I wouldn't go anywhere until I was finished. This is the second book in the series but I suggest reading it first because the first book makes more sense that way. You really have to read this series!!!

Summary: Compelling love story that introduces a person to our Savior
Review: If you read this story and don't feel Jesus' compelling love for you, then you need to reread it. This is such a wonderful, suspense filled story of unconditional love for mankind. This book changed my knowledge of the depth of His (Jesus') love for me. I will never forget the impression this book made in my life. You must read this book and the others in the series.
